range trips are becoming my best source, 3 to 5 pound from just picking it up off the ground.

how does it do in muzzleloaders, full bore and round ball.

sabot loads are not the problem.

Range lead can be about anything. Pistol bullets are hardcast and harder than WW. Could make good plinking loads.

If you separate out all the jacketed bullets and melt them by themselves you'll have very soft lead. I do this when good soft lead is not available. If you mix in hardcast pistol bullets your roundballs will be very hard and too large to load properly.

just been smelting all together. I have another little pile I need to smelt I will separate them out when I go to do them.

Roundballs will load fine with a harder lead. I have used range lead before but mine was mostly jacketed and as stated it is a bit softer. You could sort out the softer stuff for conicals. Still not the best but it will work.

In reality, except for someone like me who shoots high zinc projectiles, you should not really have an issue with the lead.
I have fired my .50, and .54 with WW alloy mixed with .22 bullets. With a patch, not a big deal.
Actually fits a little tighter also. When I cast my R.E.A.Ls with the melt, they are a little harder to set in the bore. Once the rifleing is engraved, it gets easier.
I wouldn't worry too much. If it is waaaay too hard, mix in some soft.
At least it is castable!
Things are getting lean these days.

What Docone31 said. I used what I could get because it was what I could get. I have a better variety now. If that's what you can get use it or at least try it and see. If it doesn't work out good you can go from there are swap some lead with someone that needs harder lead.

The stuff I scrape up under the metal targets at the pistol range is softer than WW's but it's still hard lead. It casts very well. It has become my best source of lead.

I just take an small bucket, just pick stuff up off the ground when I go to check my targets, avg of 3 to 5 pounds that way,

i can't image what is in the back stop, no one mines it, it is on public lands, so I don't know if they will let anyone mine it, sad they are going to close it from jan to april.

I'd love to mine, my range at work. Range is almost 30 years old and never touched. You can pick up lead off the cround. All from jacketed bullets. The thing is a couple guys at work went though allot of greaf not to long ago for getting rid of some old copper pipe and I don't want to go through any of that. Just not worth it.
