I picked up one of these double cavity moulds a few years ago and have never even cast a single one. If you have used this mould and have some tips for me I would like to hear them. I've cast a lot of 225415, 225438 and some others.
Most likely I will use this 225646 in a Bee and Hornet at first. I don't have a top punch (use #646 it says) so what is the next best one to use?

Thanks,
Dew

I have done some good shooting with that boolit in a hornet. About two years ago I posted a pic of a target I shot with my Ruger hornet of 10 shots fired at 100 yards after sombody posted how poorly the Ruger hornets shoot. It was shot with the 225646 but I dont remember the load off the top. I can look it up if you want, maybe even find the target.

That would be very thoughtful of you to do that for me. I really like to see pics of groups at 100 yards. I think they are much more useful than ones at 50 yards for my needs.

Stay tuned. One of these days, yes, one of these days, Sundog and I are going to ring out several different 22 boolits at 100 and 200 yards using 14 twist guns. We have at least 4 guns at our disposal, one of which is a 222 ackley BR gun. A couple are straight shootin' 22-250s which have proven to shoot well at 2400 fps. This test will be specific to boolit properties, and not to that of the cartridge. The best overall boolit style will be the winner, and we are contemplating having group buy molds made for a boolit very much, if not exactly, like the winner. ... felix

............These target s were shot at only 50 yards and were also 3 shot groups. Rifle was a Savage M112 single shot 223 with a Tasco 24X scope. Powder was H4198.

Powder charge / Velocity

If all 20 rounds had been fired into one group, it would have been less then an inch.

Some masochistic element of my personality compelled me to give another shot at 22 CF's with cast boolits, and I have some loaded up for the 223 bolter awaiting test-drives. Bullshop furnished a NICE NEI mold with two differing boolit forms, a 55 grain Loverin-type and a 72 grain RN that I hope gets along with the 1:9" twist in the barrel. Maybe this Tuesday, eh?

Here is a 300 yard target with the 225646 sized .225, ahead of 18 grains of SR4759. Cast of pure linotype.

Its about 5".

I think how the boolit fits your gun is more important than design or wieght.

Thank you for the post... all of you. I just ran out about 50 of these and they look good. I only have a .224 sizer but I will try some of that size and then try to find a .225 sizer. I too, use Linotype and I'll try some soft and hard lubes.

Al;
I am starting to train a .223 Handi to like cast, I have a 39grRF GC, a 46gr RF GC and the Lee bator, 53gr GC.
The rifle has 1/9 pitch and the one shooting session I have had gave much better results with the 53gr bullet.
I am wanting to try bullets between 65 and 80 gr, but there are almost nothing in those weights to try.
Do you know of a source for heavier molds?
I did find Herco was a very good powder for 2000-2200fps loads.

Drinks,

I use 8.0 unique in my 222. Red dot wasn't worth anything. I could send you a few 225646 to try, mine come out close to 60 grains.

NEI has a 72 grainer I believe.

If you get excited about the Herco with that 53 grainer, just wait until you work your way up to IMR 4831.

Thanks, I shall check NEI.
The reason I liked the Herco was the results, 5 shots , high 2113, low 2096fps and a 10 shot 3/4" group at 50yds first try.
I got 2900fps with 15gr. WC820, but it was a 2 1/2" 5 shot group at 50 yds, not very useful.
I plan on trying 4227 and Rel7 for higher velocities, see how that will work.
