rear site on now, I can do some real shooting with my 54cal hawken I just finish building,
just an 10yrds site in, off hand on top if it, when I was finally done, 1 ragged hole about 1in high and just a little to the left. I could not believe I shot that thing well enough to do that, I was aim right for the bulls eye,

I used 70grs of pyro rs, win #11 mag, .530 224gr Wheel weight ball, the patch was an 50/50 mix of crisco and borebutter.

on the down side, the main spring is weak and the sear broke. grrrr

I'll get the target posted later tonight

Sounds like a fun shoot, I don't have a 54 (yet) three .50's and a .58 I've given some thought to a GPR maybe in a kit...

Fix that sear, because you got a good rifle there.

took 2 or more tries to fire off the cap.

I may convert one of the two to an flint

Couple of things you might want to look at. Is the hammer dragging on any wood? common in a new build. Hammer alignment to nipple so that you get a square hit. I ahve bent a few hammers with a torch. What is the tension on your triggers? They can cause breakage if set too strong. May nee to back off a bit. I think you will have a good rifle once you are finished, but new builds can ahve growing pains.

hammer clears the wood, it is off center but not hitting the side of the nipple. rear trigger has is an hard pull (i think that does not matter), front trigger an good smooth, for me, very little tension, sorry I don;t have an trigger pull gage.

going to rebuild the lock.

has anyone dealt with the gun works, they have all the parts I need, but never have ordered from them.

If the rear trigger pulls hard you may want to look at relieving the spring tension on the triggers. Loosen the screw in back that hold it. Don't need a gauge for that it should be loosened enough so that it fires. Commonly on this type of system you might want to get a new trigger adjustment screw as they usually make them too short.

gives more to think about. once I get one thing fixed I will trouble shot from there now,

I really want to get this gun back up, it is just about the only gun I comfortable shooting off hand with. I can tell that by just that 10 yd session.
