I have a Remington Model 81 autoloader in 300 Savage that i would like some cast load suggestions for.

My only 30 caliber mold is the Lyman 311466 (lubed and gas checked mine average about 158 gr.). I would certainly be open to suggestion of another boolit that might work better in this rifle.

Looking for a plinking load that would operate the action.

Thanks in advance!

FWIW, my Dad used a 81 to collect a truckload of deer in the 1950s. He found the 150 grain factory loads didn't function the recoil-operated action as reliably as 180 grain loads. While anything is possible, I think you'll have better luck with either a much heavier bullet, or using a really light load with your 158 and using the 81 as a straight-pull bolt action. Good luck!
