I picked up another oddity while out scouting. Snakes are still active here so I'm always mindful of the ground.

Appears to be a .41 rimfire with "H" headstamp. Two firing pin indentations exactly 180 degrees from each other. WTH is this? Stubby short and appears to be copper

I used to have a Remington .41 rimfire Derringer.

Your pictures are slightly out of focus, but it sure looks like a .41 rimfire, and perhaps it simply misfired on the first try and was repositioned for the second try.

sorry about that, stinking camera phone is all I have. Must have been a pretty anemic round?

Any ideas how old this case is?

I was able to buy some "reproduction" .41 rimfire ammo back in the late 70's. Original ammo dates back over 140 years. The cartridge was intoduced in 1863.

I find a bit of goofy old casing from time to time up in these West Texas hills, never found a copper one before.

Measure the case length and outer diameter and match up (as close as you can) to one of the following;

41 Short; .467/.406
41 Long; .635/.407
42 F&W; .847/.416

The 44 Henry's had healed bullets so the inside of the case would appear to be .40/41 cal.;
BTW; twin opposing firing pin indentations is most common of the Henry rifle.

44 short; ..688/.455
44 Henry flat; .875/.815 (two different lengths of this cartridge) /.445

There are a couple other essoteric cartridges but those are the most common with the "H" headstamp. Let us know the measurements and what you think as that is an interesting find.

A deceased friend once had a 41 Swiss rimfire, it had two fireing pins. I think that is what you have there.

Two firing pin indentations 180 degrees apart makes the old casing shot in a Henry lever action repeater I believe.....
The "H" headstamp says the round was loaded by Winchester.... However the "H" initial stood for Henry.
Winchester rimfire ammunition for many, many, years was headstamped "H" on all their rimfire line.... I shot many of them years' back and miss the "H" personally...
