Today was the first day I could get out on the Sask. moose hunt (antlerless only), saw 8 moose this morning, 4 were bulls, including the largest one I've seen in the flesh. I was holding out for a calf and sure enough this evening we saw 2 cows and a calf. I played hide and seek with the 3 of them for awhile then decided to take a 200 yd. shot off cross sticks, when the smoke cleared, the calf was down. The hit was a slightly high chest shot that left a large, fist sized exit hole, the animal never suffered. Cast bullet performance was what I have come to expect, perfect expansion and lots of penetration. The load was in my 50/90 Sharps '74, the C. Sharps Badger barrel has never let me down on big game. I used a 30-1 cast 540 gr. LBT WFN PB, 110grs. of Swiss 1 1/2fg. Just get out there and do it!

I'm not sure of the weight, but I wanted a calf because I know the work involved once the animal is down, and I was hunting with my 83 yr. old uncle. I never stop being impressed by the performance of the big .50 cal. slugs (.45 as well) cast from 30-1, and used on big animals. They just seem to fall faster from these bullets then large animals hit with lighter H.V. j-word bullets.
