What maximum diameter can I expect the Lee .30 cal. boolit molds to cast on the nose and on the shank w/ clip-on WW metal? I don't have a problem feeding them metal up to 800 or so Fahrenheit, assuming they can handle it. I'm primarily interested in the lighter ones (the 150-170 grainers).

Thanks,
MJ

P.S. One other question... are the shank lengths for the 150-170 grain Lee boolits equal?

OK, here's another burning question... which .30 caliber Lee design have you all found is the most accurate?

I use the 200 grain. Bullets drop from this mold right around .310 using isotope lead. I cast at 700°. I have never measured the nose diameter, but it will fit inside the grooves on my Garands.

Dimensions you request on the 150-170 grain I don't have. I have been plenty pleased with the accuracy of the 200 gr bullets. They shoot as well as anything so far in my Garands.

If you need a little bigger boolit, my C312 185 1R double cavity is dropping at .3140" with a Lyman #2-like alloy at 740F.

The nose is an even .3000".

No word on accuracy yet as it is a brand-new mold, and I'm just getting started with it.

I use the lee 170g .309

(Lee 2-Cavity Bullet Mold C309-170-F 30 Caliber (309 Diameter) 170 Grain Flat Nose Gas Check)

in my 30-30 m94. Works great for me.
I just checked and they are .309 to .310. I size to .309 with tumble lube and gas check.
They come out 180 grains with check and lube.
I can shoot 3 inch groups at 100 yards with open sights, but that is about as good as my eyes are anymore.
I can send you a few if you want to pm me.

A nose diameter of .302" is likely what my '06 needs. Is there anything out there that'll drop .302" to .303" on the nose and still be able to size .3100" to .3105" on the shank without closing up the lube grooves? Because of the very short throat, I need to keep the weight down.

Thanks,
MJ

My 150 Lee casts .3103" at the bands and .2990" tapering to .2995" at the base of the nose. ACCOWW + 2% Sn, mould temp 420*, light satin frost on boolits.

My Lee 312-185 drops at .313" on the bands and .302 on the nose. I lube and install gaschecks in a .313" Lyman die, then if the rifle requires a smaller diameter, I run it through a .311" Lee die.

It is little bit of extra work, but I had the .313" die before I had any 30 cal gas check molds. If I were starting over I would just get a .311" H&I die.

How does Lee's 7.62x39 boolit (C312-155-2R) spec out?

How does Lee's 7.62x39 boolit (C312-155-2R) spec out?

MJ My older SC drops WW alloy .314 bands and taper starts at base of nose .309 My newer DC drops .312 bands and base of nose is .308 with an sharper taper.

Other Lee moulds I have had all vary 309-160 was .311x.302 , 309-150 FP was .309x.298

If you need that bigger nose go with the 312-185 ,mine drops .312x.302 easily sizes down to even .309 with grooves in fine shape just fill them first.

As for accuracy the 312-155 has shot the best for me in several rifles besting the 185 by a slight margin I could never get the same results from the 309-160 same for the 150 fn

Thanks for the help. Maybe I'll get 'em both (the 155 and 185 that is).
