I have a lot of lead 459" 300 gn bullets I bought years ago for my 45-70. I'm down to about 500 now. I was think of pushing these thru my .452 lee sizer and shooting them in my Ruger Blackhawk. Length shouldn't be a concern.

Anybody seem a problem with this?

You won't have much left in the way of lube grooves left sizing them down that much.

Lube them first @.459", then size to .452", they'll work.

I size a Lee 340 .457 down to .452 and shoot them in 45 colt and they work just fine. They drop from mould at .458 and there is no problem so far with them in both a Ruger Vaquero and a 45 colt rifle.

I like to use the Lyman Gould HP in the 45 Colt and do size it down but I dont like to go down that much in one step. Its a little more work but what I like to do is to lube them at about what they drop from the mold or a .001" under then go down it steps not more than .004" at a time and less is better. So I may lube them in a .460" or .459" die then re size in a .457, the a .454 and then to .452. Most Rugers will handle the .454" without further reduction and mine shoot best with some loads at .454"
This way you wont have any issues with lube grooves closing.

+1, I do the same thing with the same boolits, but my SC mould drops WW at .457" on the money. I size in a .458" Lyman and lube, then whang 'em through a .454" Lyman followed by a .452" Lee. End up with .453-ish boolits which work fine in my Ruger. The lube from the first sizing acts as a hydraulic lock that keeps the grooves open.

I use the same procedure for sizing down 45 cal cartridge rifle boolits for use in quick twist 45 cal ML at .451". Makes a lot of designs usable in the ML.
These also work well if someone wants to ML for a breach loading cartridge gun as was done in the old days.

.................Two of the above boolits are intended for 45 cal rifles. Both are very accurate from my first model Vaquero. Also the Lee (haven't tried the 300gr Lyman yet) used in my Miroku M92 Winchester has been the most accurate boolit used to date. The Miroku has a 16" twist.

Greetings Beemer...
There is no reason you cannot..
I used to down size .430 to .411 to have Heavy boolits in my 41's..
It does not take a bunch of lube in a revolver plus you can tumble lube .
But I would do some measuring of your Ruger Throats.. Do not undersize those boolits.

As has been said, make sure the lube grooves are filled and then I suggest you size them base first through the Lee size die. This will prevent base deformation and any "fins".

Ran them thru last night. Absolutely no problem. Lube grooves look untouched. The Ruger is a custom project, barrel is .451. These were bought, not cast by me. Don't remember who from, it's been a long time.

Looking for a load now, preferably Unique.

I use the lee 340grain sized to .454 it will fit in all my blackhawks and my super redhawk it is by far the most accurate boolit out of my .45's it doesn't matter if I push them fast or slow:Fire:
