Dear fellow boolit casters, at the present time I think about ordering a custom mould for a 9,3x74 R.

But Iīm not really sure about the design.

The gun is a double rifle so I can use a pointed bullet.

But the area where I use it for hunting is mostly forest with close shots.

Mostly the distance is less then 60 Meters (about 66 Yards) never more than about 100 Meters.

Often the game is moving because there are dogs around to get the animals out of the brush.

I would like to use lead bullets for hunting which is very unusual in germany.

I think of lead bullets for practice and PP bullets for hunting.

My idea is kind of semiwadcutter bullet with a sharp shoulder - more or less a kind of "Keith" design.

But Iīm not sure about the design. Another point is the point :p

Hollow point or just "standart".

I own the lyman mould 458 "Gould" 330 Grains Hollow Point and Iīm not sure if itīs really neccessary to have a hollow point for good expansion with a lead bullet.

So, please, let me know your experience.

There might be an overrun of this group buy,,,, http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=71892
It is what I would use for design for hunting and practice. At the ranges you speak of, 1800-2000 fps with this cast should be good for most anything. Not sure how or alloy I would cast it however. Maybe a water dropped WW would handle that speed and still have some expansion. Other's that have more knowledge of that velocity range could anwer better.

I asked if I can take part in this group buy. I am sure they will give me an answer.

But if I need to special order mould I would like to find a design for the special needs I have.

Since this is for a double rifle, can the rifle be regulated for the load? On most side by side doubles the regulation is fixed and in order for the barrels to shoot together the bullet weight and velocity must closely match the regulation load. Some of the guys on the "Accurate Reloading" site have done some work with cast bullets and if I remember correctly they had worked out a solution for some fixed regulation doubles so they could shoot cast bullets and get at least acceptable regulation.

Very important question!!

But: Yes, the TIKKA allows the correction of both barrels!!!

This is one of the most interesting design features of this gun.

Have you checked out Mountain Moulds?
http://www.mountainmolds.com/
You can design just about anything you want (as long as it's not a spitzer). I have a couple of their molds and they're first rate.

I had Dan at Mountain Moulds make me a mould for my 512S. A 295gr BTAN with a 70% meplat. We had a 35 cal group buy mould from "Old West" bullet mould callled the "hammer" which looks alot like the Lyman 311440, but in 35 cal.
Since you are at such a short range, I think you could use a boolit like this design to good effect.
Go to the MM website and punch in 9.3 mm, .369" dia, .600" nose length, BTAN design,.330" nose length and a 80%-83% meplat.
If I was shooting only at short range, this is what I would have had Dan make, but I can get a longer shot, so my bore ride length was shorter and bit smaller meplat.

A custom Tikka double rifle, very interesting rifle there.

Any chance of a few pics?

If you want some itīs not a problem. At this moment the rifle is at the gunshop for mounting a scope.

As soon as I have it back I will post some pics.

Jim at Cast Bullet Engineering has at least one bullet in .366 cal.

The first 2 are of my CBE mould. One of the best moulds I own. The second two are a paper patched 250 gr. .358 dia. Saeco boolit. The load was the the same load I use with my 270 gr. jacketed bullets.

It is 412 series O/U double.
Originally they made it under Valmet name, but later on when Sako bought the Tikka they started tu sell it under Tikka name.
Tikka:s are already made in Italy in Marocci factory..
Later when Beretta bought Sako, they discontinued Tikka shotgun manufacturing and the name changed after the new importer to FinnClassic..

System is nice, because one can use shotgun, double rifle and combi barrels with shotgun and rifle caliber in the same weapon.

Great pics, great PP boolits - but I wonder why the americans care for such an odd and old german chambering.

Berlin gunmakerīs Otto Bock did it in about 1903 for the german colonies in afrika.

Today we use it mostly for our wild piggies LOL

I own a double trigger 412 S double rifle 8*57 IRS with another barrel 12/70 and 7*65 R.

My single 512 S is a double rifle 9,3*74 R because the wild boar in our forest grow bigger and bigger every year.
