The price of primers is finally coming back down. 18.50/1000 is the lowest price I've seen lately. Wideners and PowderValley have dropped the price on most of their primers, including CCI, Federal and Wolf. Maybe everyone else will follow suit. I'm hoping the political climate along with the withdrawal of troops in Iran (ooops...Iraq) will increase the availability of reloading components. If so, it's about time.

$25/ 1000 for all primers at the Rochester NY gun show last weekend. They had a good selection of Federal, Win.and , CCI including Large pistol and Large rifle primers. A nice surprise!

$18.50 per thousand?? WOW, that's a screaming deal--by local standards anyway. We're still up around $35+ per thousand here, which is mildly irritating since I've dropped below my 2K par on everything now. I like keeping a 5K level on all my primers, but it's been pretty costly to keep up with this last year or so...

I bought a few boxes of Wolf primers from Widener's when they dropped the price to $18.99. The Hazmat fee still gets you but it sure is nice to have a couple of extra boxes available.

Prices on black rifles have come down too - seems there's a glut in a few categories.

I checked Sportsmans warehouse in Meridian, ID day before yesterday and all types/sizes were in the $25-30 range, seemed a little high to me.

I'm starting to see more "sales" on primers now, the trend for prices is "down", and the availability is definitely "up". It is really nice to see this!

Primers here in North Western Oregon are around $3.59 (?) per 100....for Winchesters.
High, but it's good to see em back on the shelfs again and powder too, even if it is $22.-28.00 per pound...!
When I first started reloading an old friend told me to keep a stock of powder and primers because ya NEVER know when they will shut em off....That was 30 years ago.
So when ever I had a little extra "jingle" I'd buy a brick of primers, mark the date on em and put em away. Use up the oldest first of coarse.
As far as Powder, I have read that BALL powders will last indefinately, so I kinda lean towards buying Ball powder if I am putting some away. Find a powder that will cover most of your loads .
Just somethin to think about..... "Papa Jack"

$32 per 1,000 at the local Walmarts and still $40+ at the local gun shops here, but at least they finally have some in stock. Had to break down and buy a couple thousand CCI at Walmart due to being totally out of a couple sizes, but no more until they come down some more. And definitely no more from a few local shops that really reamed the locals here (some were buying everything Walmart had and then resold them at double the price).

Sounds like that gunshop is paying a $25 hazmat fee on each brick, huh?

Freudian slip?;-)

My range/gun store still sells them at $40/1k. I might ask them when they'll drop the prices. Wolf is $35 but kept getting misfires and went back to CCI.

Go to Jays. You get 20% off if you buy 1k or more. You can mix and match too as long as you rover 1k, you get the discount on all of them. Works out to $32/1K.

I just checked Midsouth , Midway , and Powder Valley.
They all have just about everything in stock at under $30.00 for most primers and a few as low as $24.00
I guess the primer shortage has gotten the coup de grace.
I hope all the hoarding , gouging resellers that bought up everything to sell for double its worth choke on mountains of unsellable primers.

Still in the 31-35 per thousand here. You can how ever just walk in and find them and you are not limited on the amount you buy.

You can get primers at the local Walmart?? In 20+ years of reloading I've never seen primers (other than BP stuff) at a Walmart.

Interesting.

Last week I was at local gunshop. Primers were $42/k and up. Left with my money still in my pocket. Plan to go to gunshot this weekend and check prices there. If they're less than $35/k I'll probably buy 2k just to add to reserve supply. If they're less than $30/k I'll probably get more.

Unless there is state law against mail order primers and powder, I don't understand why there aren't more of you to order these on-line, pay the hazmat and shipping, and still pay way less than $30/1000 for primers. I've got about 8 to 10 fellow reloaders and we occasionally make a combined order and share the hazmat and shipping. The last order we made cost us about $26/1000, shipped right to the front door by UPS. Now that some primers are as little as $16.49/1000 it would be much, much less than that. It would actually pay to order them and have them sent to your front door. No time spent traveling, no gas cost and no wear-n-tear on vehicle.

"You can get primers at the local Walmart?? In 20+ years of reloading I've never seen primers (other than BP stuff) at a Walmart." Yup Moonie, our Walmarts sell reloading components. In fact they are usually far better stocked than the local gunshops when it comes to reloading components. I noticed when traveling out of state many Walmarts do not carry reloading components. Must be by locality. It also depends on who is working the sporting goods section as well. I noticed one Walmart in particular carried quite a variety of components and after talking to the sporting goods staff there I discovered they reloaded themselves and were quite knowledgeable. They were the ones that also pointed out that local shop owners were sending their staff in to buy up all there primers, ammo, etc. and where re-selling it at double the price. They quickly help set up limits and contacted other Walmarts and advised them to do the same.
