Well, I had another good day with the puma 454 today. That little cannon continues to impress me. I got some Hammer Boolits from another guy on here (a remake of the Lee 300 and weigh about 330 with a bigger meplat) and started working up with Lil' Gun- here are the results;

All loads were with Rem 7 1/2 primer and WW cases.

Last week I started at 21.5gr of Lil Gun with no accuracy at all. As I started going up in charge weight, the groups fluctuated between 2 and 4 inches at 50 yards until I hit the top Hodgdon recommended data (I used the cast performance 320gr I used for a baseline) at 24 grs. Once I hit 24gr the group (3 rounds) settled into about 3/4" at 50 yds with an average MV of 1742 fps. So this today I decided to see if it was just a fluke and loaded up 2 more 3 round batches at 24.5 and 25 grs- velocity went up , but not much and the accuracy went away. I also loaded 12 more rounds at 24grs, and I shot 1.2" and 1" 5 shot groups at 50. But the only thing was that I lost about 60fps. Last week it was 60 degrees and sunny, today it was 31. Does anyone know if Lil Gun slows way down on the cold? I didnt notice anything else slowing that much.

The next thing for me to try is a CCI 450 primer instead of the Rem 7 1/2. It will probably help in the cold.

just watch for pressure when it warms back up a safe load in winter can be over pressure when summer roles around. also hows the recoil with the 320gr boolits? ive only ever shot 300gr from my puma.

I will be cautious when it warms up. The loads I have worked up have no pressure signs at all. Also the recoil on a 6lb gun can be described as "brisk". Just a fun gun!

I've shot Buffalo Bore 360 grains loads in my 454 Rossi and the recoil is more than brisk!It recoils worse than my 9.5 pound Marlin fiting 405 remington factory loads. But it is mity good to check for loose fillings in your teeth! [smilie=l:
