Got a used 45/70 Pedersoli Rolling block last week.Drove a .490 roundball through from the muzzle.bore is .444 groove is .461.No throat haven't shot it yet.It had some lead in grooves,no surprise there. Is this thing useable or a 1.125" dia. octagon 30" long jack handle.

Might not be an accurate measurement. Pedersoli has a "choked rifling". Try driving one in the breach end part way then driving it back out. See what it measures then.

Should be a good shooter and well made. I know of several that win matches!!

Nice rifle, if you do not love the 45/70 it would be a surprise. You can load round ball for rabbits, and 500 + for elfunt. Have fun

consider this-- the difference between the bore and grove is .017"..The rifling is .0085 deep. I think that is as deep as you want it to be, but I believe it would handle a soft bullet well.

I tried that just now.I get the same dimensions as before.I had one of these before that had .458 groove dia.It shot pretty good.I have 3 RCBS moulds 300,325,and 405.2 Lyman,457125, 457132,and 2 Lee 405 and 500 3R.It won't chamber the 500+ grainer's with out seating them with the front band below the case mouth at least .125".There is no hint of a throat.Looking in from the chamber end ,it looks like the chamber ends at the end of the case then rifling.
I shoot at least three guns at silhouette's almost every weekend.Mostly NRA CLA but IHMSA too.I have a Browning 1886 45/70 that I shoot CLA with sometimes. The Browning out shoot's all the other lever guns I have at 200 with peep sights.I've also used to have a Ruger #3.

So what does the throat measure. CBE makes a .464 480 mould. I shoot these bullets through my Trapdoor Springfield which measure .461. .458 bullets in that gun always keyholed. Now the gun shots and very well.

Near as I can tell the rifling starts about .035" from the end of the case.I guess whats getting to me the most is the .444 bore diameter and the lack of a throat.Lyman 457132 would be have to be seated with the front band .130 below the case mouth.Who is CBE?
