Hi Guy's
I am looking for a new mould for the .308 I have 311291 and 311332 I shoot 311332 mostly I have 3 bolt guns with 13" twist barrels and a M1a with 11" and can get sub M.O.A in the bolt guns have not tried the M1a yet ,
I want a 4 cavity mould as I sell boolits to some guys that load subsonic ammo
and it is hard work with the single cavities that I have, Are there .308 specific designed moulds available in the 180-190 grain range.
Regards
Robert.

at one time lyman did cut some rifle designs in 4 cavity molds good luck finding them though.
i have a couple of nei's in 4 cavity[ which i really like] but wouldn't purchase a new one from them if they sent the cherry so's i could cut it myself.
other'n that it's two cavity territory or a group buy.

SAECO still makes four cavity moulds, how about the #315.

Welcome to Castboolits Shooternz,

You have no idea how bad I wish RCBS would make a four cav but they won't.

My 308 loves the RCBS 180 SPGC and will shoot it into 2 inch groups @ 1900 fps at 200 meters from the bench any day that I can do my part. The only sugestion for this would be Mountain Molds for a custom or cast with two of the RCBS molds at the same time. Mountain Molds would be cheaper and very possibly better.

I am about to start load testing Lyman 311332, 180 gr SP that casts at 186 gr with WW in my mould but again, 2 cav.

Good luck, let us know what you come up with.

Rick

Doc Highwall, a custom mold from Mountain molds is cheaper than a 4 cav from SAECO. Plus you'll have to take your chances with SAECO that you will get a good one. If you don't you run the risk of Robbin Sharpless at Redding sending out an email slandering you, which he did with me. Next, I don't know how you lubed that bullet but I doubt it was in a lubrisizer, it's too tapered. The OP wants to sell these bullets, pan lubing would be very slow.

I was recently given a coffee can full 315's, I only took them because I think they are all lino.

I have a 311466 with the Saeco 315 nose profile cut into it. If I were looking for a custom 4 cavity I would look long and hard at having that reproduced.

cbrick, I do lube and size the SAECO #315 bullet in my SAECO luber sizer with the BullShops NASA lube and get great accuracy at 300 yards.

Unless I'm mistaken, Mountain Molds doesn't offer 4-cavity molds, so that's not an option. Looks like if you want a 4-cavity rifle mold, Saeco is about your best (only?) choice.

Thanks for the replies, after surfing the net and the answers from the forum members I think my best bet is to get a couple of Lyman 311332 moulds
I like the shape of it and it shoots very well in my rifles, if I had a single shot rifle
I would try the SAECO 315 I'm not keen on the lube grooves so far out of the case
in a magazine, I tried designing my own on Mountain Moulds with the gas-check
level with the base of the neck and the lube grooves inside it looked rather silly
guess that's why nobody has made one, I have a Mountain Moulds 44/40 mould
that works great and a NEI 9.3mm that is also great.
Cheers
Robert.

I agree on lube groove not extending out of the case neck. For range shooting or in some conditions they are not a problem. For general shooting, especially with a gas gun like the M1A, they do pose some problems that to me are not worth messing with.

I use the 311299 (200 gr) in my Fulton Match M1A with a kreiger 11" twist barrel. It shoots superbly right at 2000 fps. I have not tried it in my 14" twist Palma barrel as that might be a bit slow for that bullet (remains to be seen though if I can push it to 2400 - 2500 fps). I do shoot 311291 an 311041 (both right at 177 gr with the front driving bands sized to .300 so the GC also does not extend below the case neck) with very, very good accuracy to 2500 fps out of the Palma rifle. With your 13" twist rifle you should be able to push that also. I've several times looked hard at the 311332 and would have got it had it not had that scraper groove in front of the 1st driving band. I also shoot the 311466U (I have a 4 cavity Lyman mould:-) ) at 2600 fps with 1.5 moa out of the Palma rifle. I also size the 1st 2 driving bands at .300 so the lube grooves and GC then are in the .308W neck. That 311466U sized and seated the same shoots the best out of my 12" twist rack grade M1A at 2240 fps.

I have not tried any high velocity loads in any of my rifles, the casting I've been doing is for pistols, I got back into rifles to experiment with subsonic loads there is a fad here to put suppressors on every thing, I don't have one I've just been
using my old 40X with a 26" barrel most accurate load so far is with Trail Boss 10.5 grains behind the 311332 5 x 1.25" at a 100 velocity was 1207fps just have to work backwards to get subsonic,
If you are not looking for speed Trail Boss is the stuff 10.5 grains fills the case to the shoulder and is clean burning not sure what maximum is but at 11.5 grains the group opened to 1.8".

Hi Shooternz,

I shoot the RCBS 165gr boolit in my 32 H&R Mag T/C pistol.

If you want a dozen or so for trial let me know your address and I will send you some. I shoot these subsonic out to the 200 yd steel targets with just Lee mule snot for lube and gas-checked. Peter.

I believe LBT makes four cavity molds. Check their website.

18 to 20 grains SR 4759 depending on the velocity your looking for and your rifle. Standard primers.
