Hey guys,
My question is who on here knows how to hone a sizing die up to a larger dia.
I have a .354 that needs to be .3555.
Thanks in advance,
Wayne

You can use a wooden dowel almost as big as the inside diameter of the die and then wrap an inch or so wide strip of dry/wet 320 grit sand paper around it until you have a tight fit and then turn it in the die. I use a split rod (metal rod with a thin cut down the middle) to do the same thing and then chuck it in my powder hand drill and turn it that way. Just go slow and check every so often with a bullet to make sure you have the diameter you want.

Thanks for the info RobS, next question, do you finish with finer grit paper or is the 320 fine enough?
TIA,

Here's Buckshot's method: http://www.castpics.net/

I've done two. Started with 400 paper, then 600 as the desired dimension approached, then finished with 1200.

I wrapped a towel around a piece of 2"X4" and clamped it in a vise. Roll the die with the opening facing in one direction for a while then switch it over. Alernating directions will help assure that the interior has an even dimension.

Go slow, clean often and run a boolit through until you have the desired size.

Wayne:
Yes I do finish with a finer grit.........forgot to mention it. I usually finish with 600 or 800.

.............BTW, when using wet or dry silicon-carbide abrasive paper, the abrasive granules fracture and thus become smaller/finer with use.
