I am a new reloader been doing it for about 6 months now. while looking in my book for a .45 plinkin round I noticed that 4.o gr Bullseye pushes a 230 gr bullet faeset than a 200 gr bullet. how come? Note: both are lead bullets

The name of the game is pressure. Powder burns creating gas pressure which pushes the bullet out. I haven't looked at my books on what you say, but if it's in a legit reloading book, I'd have to say that the 230 gr bullet has more pressure then what the 200 gr one creates and apparently enough so that it even beats the 200 in velocity.

Star you are right the 200 gr is 9800 psi and the 230 gr is13900 my book is
Modern Reloading By Richard Lee 2nd Addition

Well I don't if I'm right or not, but sometimes bullets aren't loaded to the fastest velocity, but to the best performing velocities.

You can see then the 230 gr has alot more pressure, enough so to make it overcome it's weight disadvantage and beat the 200 gr, that is with the amount of powder staying the same in both.

Another possibility is that the two loads were not from the same test gun. IIRC the Lee book is a collection of loads from other sources. The 200 gr. load could be from a short revolver like a 4" 625, and the 230 from a longer-barreled solid breech pistol.
