Fired up the pot

Finally found the time to cast some and tried running two six cavity molds. Once I got my new mold throwing good boolits it went very smoothly. Like a dumba** I didn't clean the new mold before using it and it took a while to get it working right. I'm using a bottom pour 20lb Lee pot... and using two 180gr 6 cavity Lee molds it didn't take long to drain the pot. I had a couple issues with adding too much lead and freezing the spout but all in all it went well with the two molds. I made around 2000 so that should last a couple of weeks;).

2000 and you think you'll be good for a couple weeks; that would do me for a few months possibly. I guess I need to shoot more :)

I am constantly adding lead as soon as there is enough room for more so that it keeps the lead temp from dropping much.

Thats why its good to actually have 2 pots going. You cast from one and dip lead from the other. That way you do not assault your casting pot with cold ingots.
Some folks preheat the ingots on a hot plate.

I also cut my sprues right back into the pot.. They are already hot and I am only taking out the mass of the boolits I cast each time.

I was thinking about this while casting. I've got a 10lb pot that needs an overhaul, might be able to run two...

I recently started removing the spru by hand and putting them back in the pot just made sense. Works very well and my pot takes longer to empty :)

I break the sprue directly back into the pot, I've always done it that way. That does help to keep the pot up...think I'll try running the second pot.
