Could someone recommend a good aperture sight for the 1871 Buffalo Classic. Mine has the Williams and it doesn/t have enough elevation adjustment and it cannot be adjusted without a screwdriver. I had rather not have the tang type but would like something like a ladder type sight that could be easily and repeatably adjusted for different ranges. Is there such a critter that doesn't cost more than the rifle?

If your sight is the Williams Guide, that is the aperature slides back and forth on an inclined plain, you can get a better sight in the Williams Foolproof. It is available direct from the NEF/H&R website, www.hr1871.com. I have one on each of my target model .38-55's and there is plenty of elevation adjustment in that application.

depending upon just how far out you plan on reaching, you could do it the way that I've done it...http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,4915.htm

I just screwed it into the wrist after predrilling the holes. That works very well for me even out to 900 yards. This winter I plan on trying to come up with a metal tang type of system for myself. More than likely it will get put in between the stock and receiver, being held in place by the stock bolt.

Did it that way because those Williams just don't reach "up" far enough for me.:)

Bubba, do you have pics of your setup? Could you post them?

Kyfarmer, Brownells list one made by Smith Enterprise. It attaches to the existing holes in the barrel. It's a ladder type sight. Stock #851-000-045, that sells for $139.95...Ray

Thanks for all the replies. The Smith sight is about what I was looking for. Now if can find the money I'll be in business.
