A while back I purchased on sale what was called a fish fryer at the local Atwood's Farm & Ranch store. This thing looks a lot like a turkey fryer and costs less so I bought one. It has a cast iron burner and the regulator has a knob for adjusting the amount of flame. It also has sturdy legs that are strong enough to hold my dutch oven full of lead. Yesterday I used it for the first time and smelted 2 five gallon pails of wheel weights. It worked great, certainly a lot faster than the old Coleman stove I used in the past.

Now I can use my Coleman stove for cooking.

Coleman stoves are excellent for their intended purpose ( which isn't melting lead ). I do believe you'll be much safer and much happier with your current smelting setup.

I would think you could use your stove for cooking, I really cant think of any reason why you could not use it, because it was just the heat source not what the lead was in.
