...............Speaking of the MAS 36 rifle and cast boolits I have 50 sized cases ready to go for 50 of the RCBS 30-180-SPGC. The boolits weigh 191 grns out of my alloy. 2400 is my fuel of choice. Have done some checking into load data on the www. and from what I see it looks like 18-21 grains of 2400 would be a good place to start. Unfortunately, my Lyman load manuals do not list any data for the 7.5x54 French round.

Anybody see a safety issue with 18-21 grains of 2400 and a 191 grain cast boolit in the 7.5x54 French round?

Mick-

I got the load data from the C.E. Harris article, "Cast Bullet Loads For Military Rifles" which has been floating around the web for quite a while. I've seen it mentioned before on the web that the case capacity of the 7.5x54 French round and the 7.65x53 Mauser is nearly identical and that 7.65x53 starting load data can be used with the 7.5x54 French round to work up safely.

The C.E. Harris article lists a "Deer/600 Yard Target" load for 180-200 grn gas checked boolits; and 7.65x53 is one of the accepted calibers listed for this load of 18-21 grains of 2400 behind a 180-200 grn GC boolit. Several other powders are listed as well, but I favor 2400 in the Mil-Surps.

Just thought I'd double check here to be safe as we have quite a few members here that like 2400.

.............A good place to start with any of the up to WW2 era full power rifle cartridges is 16.0grs of 2400. You can adjust from there, and that load won't get you into any hot water. Starting at 16.0 and loading 5 rounds up in 1.0gr increments to 21.0grs should show you what is going to happen.
