Has any one tried the Lee .50 caliber/450 gr. bullet or the Lyman .50 caliber 345 gr. cast bullets in the 50/95 model 1876. I just got some Jamison brass. I find that I will be lucky to get 85 grs. black powder in them. So ,I guess I'll be looking at smokeless powder. I would like to have some loads that are 10 -15% faster than black powder. I have been thinking about 4895 or maybe a full case of h4831. Any thoughts?

With that toggle link action design you need to hold pressure down. I don't think 4895 is going to work as it'll make the bullet go too fast for the plainbase designs, or else won't burn worth a hoot. You're going to need a faster burning rate smokeless powder like AA5744, 4759, or maybe Trail Boss.

IMO, Swiss BP in ffg should make 'em go as fast as you need. I would hesitate to put a finer granulation of BP in that case.

Cartridges of the World lists 285-350gr bullets for that cartridge. Do you know what your rifling twist is? The original 1-60" twist will work better with short bullets.

Having read about the massive overloads Winchester tried in there own 1876 one has to wonder if the 1876 is aweak action. Of course I don't think the new made action is as strong as an 1892 action. I will agree that the Winchester made action is not as strong as the Uberti made action due to better steels Uberti uses. Anyway, when all the reloading supplies show up I will see how it holds up to 10% increase as that is all I'm looking for. If I want more power I'll go to my Browning 1886. No offense to any one. Thank you for your help.
