Would anyone be intrested in a Gun Loads hosted Auction place?
Basically a place where you can buy or sell your guns, boolits, molds, ANYTHING having to do with shooting / hunting..?

Basically it would be an ebay type auction place, but it would be pretty much free to do it. I think I would charge a really small fee for items that sell.. Something like 2%. Just to help pay for the auction software.

Anywho, whats your thoughts on this idea?

YOu mean like gunbroker.com, or gunsamerica.com, etc? Sound like a good idea to me.

Willy, I think I would make a set amount for a fee, say 10 cents for items under five bucks, a quarter for items under ten, maybe 3-5 bucks for items over a hundred, 20 for things over a thousand. something along that line. Just make it a set amount. People could send money to you ahead, and have an account. No need to do extensive book work at first, I'm sure. As long as the program doesn't cost much, costs are met, and no individual proves to be a consistant deadbeat, it should be pretty good. Hopefully, it would raise enough to comfortably fund the server costs. And to tell you the truth? I don't have any objections of you making some money off of it. Need a partner, for start up costs? I don't have a lot of funds, but who knows where this could lead in the future? Let me know.

Also, I don't believe I would limit the types of items being auctioned, aside from the porn stuff. Lots of us have all kindsa weird crap we would like to get rid of. And there are lots of other weirdos, here, who will think that particular item, needs added to thier collection. Heck, we may be able to buy a Buckshotmobile, right from the site!

Ric,

It could lead to Willywakis-guns.com

I think we all have stuff laying around that needs a new home, and stuff stored at someone else's place that really ought to be at mine. Not to mention a site that is gun firendly, unlike fleabay.

I like the idea, but think it should be firearms related items only. There are plenty of other places on the net to get rid of the weird watchamacallits that we all accumulate.

Ebay is really the only other place to sell widgets, and I'd prefer to not have to deal with them. I guess I could have an off topic gun sale!

I've got some old pie tins to sell. Gran'ma used to use 'them and she'd roll out the pie dough with the rolling pin that she hit gran'pa with 'cause he was out with his drinking buddies. But wait! He was drinking to celebrate shooting the big buck he shot and he was prob'ly using cast bullets. That's gun related and on topic isn't it? Regards, Woody

That's a good arguement Ric. I refuse to deal with evil bay, sooooo, Yeah, an "Off Topic" area would likely satisfy both issues.

As I already posted on another thread i wouldn't mind giving a percentage of anything sold here to the site. I would surely transfer all my Gunbroker items here. This isn't much but if 10-20 dollars a month will help more power to you.

One big improvment you need to make that Ebay won't: Ban the people who lie about their listings, sell stuff they don't actually have in stock, and try to steal with enormous shipping fees.

Those high shipping costs actually screw ebay not you iffin you are paying attention to it. The cost for said auction is based on the winning bid, not the total cost of the item+shipping. When I sold a bunch of gunparts for an old compadre a few years ago I used that technique. 10 + 20 = 30 25+5 also= 30

Now if you do not notice s/h ouch that would leave a guy sore for sure..

I am done with fleabay, and it's demon spawn pal. So I am all for an auction site here, souds perfect to me, as long as it is not something you have to go THROUGH to get here.

Yep, the high shipping cost, was generally a CYA deal. It made a guarantee return for the seller, and screwed Ebay from thier auctioning fees. If you were one who didn't read the "fine print", yup, you could pay more than expected. I generally would state in my auctions I was making sure I was covering expenses, so people were forewarned. I had no idea what many things would cost to ship, and had more than one unpleasant surprise at the PO. Ended up in the hole, a couple of times.

Would participation be limited to list members? The present setup allows buying, selling, and trading among list members at realistic prices, not some of the exorbitant e-bay prices such as $ 87.00 for 50 38-55 cases. Otherwise a good idea.

Well, joining the forum is pretty easy, so you may as well consider it open to the world. It'll be an auction, so the item will be viewable for a period of time and the price will be the most a bidder is willing to pay. That automatically eliminates the smoking deals where one of the members posts something at a low price and the fastest typer snaps it up.

Good for sellers, good for the board, not so good for the buyers. Sacrifices have to be made. If it helps ensure this boards survival, I'm for it.

Is there a shipping calculator link available in the software(USPS & UPS)?

I'm all for it. I sell quit a bit on ebay, and lately between ebay and paypal, on average it costs me 11-13% not including any miscalculation in shipping.

Ringer,
When there is no 38-55 brass available and the estimated production run is Jan 2007, people who can afford it will pay "whatever the market will bear". Just like real estate market.
I needed more 38-55 brass for a levergun I just bought and had to form it from 30-30 rather than compete in the bidding wars, not just ebay check the other auctions too, it's gone crazy.

Jon

A quick note before you go over there.

When you register, you have to check your e-mail to confirm your e-mail address. If you do not, your account is not active. If you don't get an e-mail, chances are it's stuck in your SPAM filters, So PLEASE check that as well.

All law's apply when buying / selling firearms.

If you see something that could be improved, please let me know. The more ideas, the better we can all make this become. Also, let me know more categories you might want to see.

Also, you can post auctions for FREE for at least a month. All special things like bold listing, front page listing, all those, require a small fee. If you think the fees are too bad, let me know and I can work them down.

Happy buying and selling.
