Ok I have read about this stuff and posted int Gunsmithing Tricks/Tips about GunKote, with no responses I took a big leap today and stripped the frame of all the parts of my 1911, sand blasted it and ordered a can from Brownell. I got Matte OD Green, when it is done I will have a nice 2 tone 1911, Green Frame and Blued slide, well 3 tone because I have a polished trigger.

Before, I bought it used so there was wear on it when I bought it.

Stripped and seperated, the parts getting painted are the Frame, Magwel, Full Length guide rod, and the recoil spring plug.

When I was stripping the parts off the frame I got a little over zelious and broke my ami safty, one of those days I couldnt get much right at work today either though.

So I ordered a new saftey, a can of OD Green Gun Kota, and 2 new Wilson Match Grade bushings. One Blued for my Springfield 1911 the other Stainless for my dads Colt Combat Elite, because both are sloopy with barrel fitting.

Id like to see the pics when you get them done.

I've been using Dura Coat and wonder how it compares...

Its that frame steel or aluminum ?

Shes an aluminum alloy frame. I have heard negative things about heavier loads in these, but I have a 260gr hard cast at 875fps, no problems yet, my buffer isnt even compress that much.

Well I woke up this moring and it was raining....alright dont have to work today. Well that was wrong, I also got my order from Brownells today. So I started figuring out how I could suspend the frame and other parts so I could paint it all at once. Bingo 1/2" copper pipe, wire, 1 ladder, and one Lathe.

I didnt take a pic of how I baked it, which I should have, for anyone curious I wired them to the bottom of a rack in the oven and put the rack on the top rung......hope you can picture that in your heads.

As the paint was drying, before I put it in the oven, I started fitting the Wilson Match Bushing in my dads Colt. Took a while because I checked every few minutes to make sure I wasnt taking to much off. In the end it paid off big, when I was all done I ran out back and shot a mag full at 10 yards...5 shots on top of each other and the remaining 2 about 1" away, I didnt measure but probably 2" over all, I was shooting fast because it was sprinkling.

After 1 hour baking at 300 degrees I let it cool while I started in on my Wilson Match Bushing. Took a little long then my dads colt because I had to do the I.D. as well as the O.D. I have shot it yet but it is alot tighter then the bushin it came with.

Of course I put it back together and here is the end result.

It turned out pretty good with only 2 very small runs but were hidden mostly by the grips. IMO its a big improvement over what it was.

I think today I might do my 12 Gauge because there is enough left over to do it. Probably just receiver and the feed tube. Then maybe if there is some left over after that I will do my EstWing hammer so we can see just how do this stuff is.
