My lube mix worked pretty well last winter when it was cool here in FL. But now, when it's 90+ degrees it's more like goo then lube.

Here is the recipe:
3 fluid ozs of melted lard,
400 grs of solid beeswax,
100 grs of Alox solid bullet lube.

My question is, should I increase the amount of beeswax to harden it up or just look for a different formula? It does seem to stay soft in the barrel after firing and cleans pretty easily. But handling the REAL bullet to load it is about as messy an operation as you are going to find.

Thanks, Qajaq59

beeswax or carnuba either one ( less carnuba than beeswax )

I use a mix of roughly 50/50 beeswax and Crisco. It's a little hard in the winter, but it doesn't liquify in the Floirida summers.

I go to the Hernando shooting range.
For summer, I toss in Crisco. I kinda do it by ear, but it works.

50/50 bee's wax/lard (the "non refrigerated" kind fom the grocery store) I find it works well even in Florida summer temperatures. Just don't leave it in the truck with the windows closed! This lube does it all; it survives the neighboring chamber blast in cap & ball revolvers, lubes minie bullets and keeps fouling soft, and works great as cast boolit lube for black powder (smokeless too) cartridge reloading.

I'll give the 50/50 a try since I have the ingredients already.
Thanks guys. Qajaq

I don't live in FLA but I concur with Curator. It's a little stiff for cold temps but it is the lube I put in my sizer. The lard comes in nice 1 pound blocks in the cooking oil section.

I live in FL and I use 1/3 each lard, bee's wax, and olive oil. It makes a good leather dressing too.

In the summer I use less olive oil. In the winter I use more.

If its for BP uses get rid of the Alox. Use the other formulas suggested.

If its for BP uses get rid of the Alox. Use the other formulas suggested. I think I'm going to do just that. The Alox doesn't seem to add muc,h except making it grey.
