I bought a few boxes of Hornady Lever Revolution factory "2nds"(?) from Midway and, after reading where a guy in the 9th edition of Handloader Digest-John Traister-wrote about some work he did with the .30-30 Ackley.

I loaded up some loads similar to his only where he used a 170 grain flatpoint, I used a 160 grain LR bullet.

Got me wondering if the chrono was lying cause I got 2606 fps from a 20" barrel out of an AE '94 Win. using 31 grains of H-4198. In the article, he went as high as 32 grains but after seeing the velocity on those, I pulled those loads.

35.5 grains of H-335 got me up to 2576 fps. This is also kicking it out there for an Improved .30-30 I'd say.

Any comments or concurrences? Primer pockets were still tight. I'd say this is fast enough.

2600 fps in a 30/30, wow... even if it is an Ackley...

I only got as high as 2300 fps with our group buy 311407 wieighing 173 grains and that same load of H-335. I'm suspicious about that velocity of 2600 and thinking maybe the chronograph reading may have been faulty.

Next time I get a chance, I'll check out the 311407 again and compare the new readings. Just thought maybe someone else had done something similar.

I would suspect that velocity reading also. I push a 150 J bullet at 2527 fps from my 24" M94AE (actually only 10 fps difference between 2 M94AEs) with 36 gr of H335 and it is a standard 30-30. PSI is a measured (M43) 44,400. Facory LeveRevolution 160 gr ammo runs 2452 fps out of the 24" barrel with 37,800 psi(M43). I've loaded the 160 LR bullets to 2425 fps with H335 but the psi were at 44,000 so I didn't push any further. I'm hoping the new Hodgdon Superperformance powders to be released in January will allow duplicating the factory load at factory psi's.
