I shot my first batch of leads the other day. 357 Sig. As far as I could tell, I had no leading, although I did have a little gray at the crown of the muzzle.

I have searched this forum and on the net for a good pic of leading with no decent results.

You don't need pictures, when you have leading, you'll know it.

Congrats! Hope you enjoyed it! :drinks:
Just look down your barrel. Follow your lands and grooves, end to end. If it doesnt look smooth and pretty, with the exception of a lil grime from shooting, then ya have some leading. Another way to check is when you clean it. Just look for slivers of lead. More than likely if you have looked down your barrel and didnt ask yourself "what the heck is that" then your probably okay.

Good. That means I didn't have any leading.

Diesel. You're awesome. Thanks for all the pics.

+1, NICE pics.

BTW, looks like your GP100 has undersized cylinder throats and a forcing cone restriction just like mine did. If you haven't fixed it already, a .358 chucking reamer and about 20 rounds lubed with 400-grit Clover compound will take care of it.

Actually gear, it's a SP101 . . . and I got it straightened out . . . Took me a while to figure out the problem, but now no leading![smilie=w:

And by the way, I took LOTS of pictures to get those few good ones!

ETA: I cleaned the barrel with hoppes #9 before those pictures . . .

Great pics!

Apart from the the forcing cone, the pictures clearly shows leading in the grooves only - not on the lands. A textbook example on why boolits (and cylinder throats) should be adjusted to groove size or larger to prevent gas-cutting.

clearly your other passion is macro photography...

No, I just shoot lots of pictures, and pick out the good ones!

I have learned that if I can provide a clear detailed photo, that I can get a good answer . . . I usually use the crop feature instead of trying to zoom all the way into what you see . . .

Diesel, get the lead out!

Those are old pictures! From http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=65401

Lots of pictures and questions . . .

Gun works great now! It seems to like the Emmerts/Carnuba loob better than Alox too!

I second that. I looked at a bunch of forums and never found any good pics....

But hey, CastBoolits members had to have some.

Once again Diesel, thanks. Quite a learning curve on casting, esp with velocities of 357 Sig

Never once had a textbook lead up. Only barrels, and even then I think the
last one was about 10-12 yrs ago.
