Anyone know a bullet mold that drops in the low 200's with a diameter of .459? I have an over sized cylinder in a pistol...

About the closest thing you're going to find is the Lyman 457191, which weighs a nominal 292 grains, or a comparable 300 grain bullet from RCBS or Saeco/Redding. Lyman used to make a nominal 145 grain bullet, the 457130 'Collar Button,' but those molds go for BIG BUCKS these days - like over $300, on occasion!

Perhaps you can either 'Beagle' a mold, or lap one out.

There is a conical bullet mould for the BlackPowder cap-n-ball ruger pistol. I think thaqt mould drops .457-.458.

If you are using or considering a one cavity or two cavity mold(most if not all) current molds are one holers.....a possible solution to your problem is to have a "short plug" turned out of some aluminum rod. The length of the plug will determine the weight that you will get for the bullet. Aluminum rod is cheap and the careful use of a file and fine sandpaper along with something to spin the rod with...like a drill, lathe or drill press will get you what is needed...plus of course a little care and patience. The finished plug placed in the nose section of the mold will shorten the length of the bullet and yield lighter weight. The only drawback to start with is that you would have a flat-faced or wadcutter style bullet unless you turned a cup or cone in/on one end so that the bullet would cast with that shape on the front. After every pour you would have to replace the plug before the next pour. It all sounds like a PITA, but you have to compare that against trying to find an expensive old mould or having a custom one made which also ain't cheap. You could contact one of the skilled machinists among the forum members and one of them might do the thing for you at a nominal cost. Buckshot's name springs to mind so it might be worth seeking his advice. LLS

There are a couple of Lyman 454424 molds on GunBroker right now for a pretty reasonable price; you could probably lap one of them out to the diameter you need fairly easily. Alternately, Lee does offer a .456" conical bullet for the Ruger Old Army, here (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=432413).

You might also be able to use the Lee .467" diameter 200 grain REAL, here (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=432413), by pan lubing it first and then sizing it down in a couple of steps. Be sure to lube it before you size it, or else the lube grooves may virtually disappear!

There has been at least one GB for the collar button boolit. Might want to try a post under the boolit swap section to see if that boolit would work for you. Otherwise, there is the chance of finding an old mold but they can be pricey.

Actually, they're discussing a group buy on the Collar Button right now.
