Anybody loading for a contender 32 H&R mag W/ 308 bore?
Any recomended loads for the 115 or 120 gr LGC boolits?
Thanks for your help Jeff

I shot cast in the Contender for years in Silhouette. With those 308 bullets you better seat them out to engage the lands. 312 dia is better, still touch the lands. The chamber in mind was so big you could put a 315.5 dia bullet in the case and it wold still drop in. Try red dot, Bulls eye, 4227, 2400

I too did the same thing (standing silhouette with a 32 H&R Contender). Loaded conventionally for hunter pistol, and with rifle bullets for big bore. I used the RCBS 165 SIL with the nose sized to .300 for C-P-T and the 220 gr. Lyman Krag bullet (don't remember the number) for Rams. Normally seated very shallow, so it would only just chamber and powder was a 100% load of WC680 or AA1680. Any faster powders would pressure up enough to make extraction difficult. The Starline brass is quite strong and will hold all kinds of pressure in a Contender, so you're only limited by being able to get the case out of the chamber after it is fired. These loads had mild recoil and would reliably take the targets.

I too use the RCBS 165gr for BB standing with 9.2 gr of ADI2205 (H4227 equivalent) for all animals.
Have had the occassional ram stand if I hit in the legs.
Never found a good load with lighter cast bullets for 100 metre Field pistol, so joined everyone else in the Hornet brigade. Currently searching for a cast load for the Hornet.
