Question... the Brits used a huge 200 gr bullet in the tiny .38 Smith and Wesson round- hence the designation 38/200. I have some 200 gr 360 bullets from an RCBS mold and a 35 remington that I sold off... and no manuals have data to duplicate the original british loading.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Try Handloader magizine maybe 04 or05 there was some info as part of an artical series concerning the "evolution" of the 357. I've moved and all of that part of my "stash" is "in a box in the garage". Ben Amonette at ATK was helpfull when I gave up the independent search for any info on the 32Rem. His email is benamonette@ATK.com. He pulled info from the Lyman 45th edition and the Cast boolit loaders hanbook (I didn't even know the cast book exsisted then much less this site) .

Now that I'm thinking about it there maybe data in the 48 or 9th edition or was it the Hornady book I will look tonight .

Our own Mike Venturino also did a Handloader article about loading WWII handguns. He included the British load, or a duplication of it, in that article if I remember right.

"Pet Loads" has an article on it as well.

And actually older Lyman manuals show data for the 358430 195 grain bullet, but you would have to make allowances for possible differences in seating depth.

We've had a couple discussions on this board concerning exactly that subject, too. I have used a Beagled #358430 for this application, but now use NEI mould #169A as a closer approximation of the British service round's boolit in the 38/200--and in both Webley-Enfield and S&W M&P revolvers.

One of the curious things about the cartridge is that the boolit is longer than the cartridge casing--.810" vs. .775". A LOT of boolit nose protrudes outside the casing, too. I use 3.0 grains of Unique to achieve the standard velocity of 700 FPS for this loading, and it shoots very close to the fixed sights of both the W-E and S&W revolvers.

Mike's load from Handloader (October 2009) was 1.7 gr. of Titegroup with Lyman 358430 RN for 612-627 fps.
Hope this helps
