What's a good rate of twist to handle something like RCBS 22-055? I'm not interested in going below about 2400 fps.

If you're using something like a 22-250 or larger case capacity and slower powders then a 16" twist would be best for over 2400 fps. Most 22-250s ar14" wists and they do alright at HV. Not sure the RCBS 22-055 is the best cast bullet design for best accuracy at that HV.

I shoot the RCBS 55sp and 55fn (shorter bullet) with 4759 and 4227 at 2200-2300 in a 1-9 223, 1-12 22-250 and a 1-14" twist 222 and cant tell an accuracy difference due to twist rate.I get better accuracy with an LBT 60g tapered bullet, but the RCBS does 1.25"-1.5" @ 100 for 5.

Recently, I've been shooting the Rcbs 22-55sp in my Rem. 700. The barrel is 1/14 twist and chambered in the obsolete 222 rem mag. With 14.5gr. imr 4227 I'm getting 2400 fps and 3/4 moa { if I do everything right}.

One thing that is often taken for granted, is the proper alloy. Everybody's rifle and requirements are different, however, after A LOT of experimentation, for my rifle, the magic alloy is 3/1 ww lino.

Kirk,

According to QuickLoad that load produces around 22K PSI which should be just about right for your alloy if it's in the BHN 14-15 range. Is your alloy approx. that hardness? I'm assuming a 24" barrel and a COL of 2.24". Have you tried going faster than 2400 fps with your .222M?
