Hello, I asked this question in one of the other forums and thought Id try it here as well!

Ive accidently bought 2 types of Federal primers, small pistol 100s, and small pistol magnum primers 200s !

Can I use the small pistol magnum primers to load .38spl ? ( yes I no they will fit )
Im loading 2.7 gr bullseye with 148gr wad cutters.

Is there any chance of excessive pressures ect. ?

Also does anyone no the Alliant website addy...I cant seem to find it:(

Thank you,

Ricochet

That's a very mild load of Bullseye. You should have no problem. In discussion elsewhere it was mentioned that some small pistol magnum primers (not sure of this applies to Federal) simply have thicker brass cups, not more priming compound. But at any rate, you're not going to get dangerous pressures with 2.7 grains of Bullseye even if the primers are somewhat "hotter," IMO.

I loaded up 300 rounds with Magnum primers and shot them before I realized my mistake and I had no problems. It was 180:Fire: gr tc over 5.2 gr of unique this load was for a .40 S&W

if it was a hi end load switching to mag primers i would be concerned, but a low end will probably burn a little cleaner.

It would only matter with a maximum load. Mild to mid loads, no problem. - Hunter
