I am late coming to 2400 as a cast bullet powder, but my admiration continues to grow. I have learned that cetain charges are sure fire accuracy loads. That doesn't mean the loads are the most accurate, but will tell you right quick if your rifle/bullet, etc. has potential. If you can't get decent accuracy with this charge, then it is time to look at your bullet, alloy, sizing diamter etc.

14/2400 in the 30-30 and similar capacity cases
16/2400 in the 30-40/.308 and smilar capacity cases
18/2400 in the 30-06 and smilar capacity cases

I know this is not news to most of you, but maybe there is a lurker/newbie out there who can use this.

2400 is not the be-all and end-all of powders and It will have it's top end, past which a slower powder will do much better. I am not certain where that top end is, but my guts tell me about 1.8K fps or thereabouts.

Good info, Chargar. To carry the bit a little further, in 243 and 250 Savage I have used 12.0 grains of 2400 for some impressive accuracy results with 95-100 grain boolits respectively.

Hi Chargar, (again)
I concur with my recent findings in the .30-06 and a 175 gr. bullet. I haven't tried it with any 150 gr. stuff or in the .30-30 at all. Will give it a try though. are you talking 170-like gr. in .30-30 with that powder charge?

I tried a 25 gr. load in .444 Marlin with the new RD .432 and it's got real promise. Also with 17.5 gr. in the .44 mag. and same bullet it is the cat's meow.

Ditto in .22Hornet w/ 49.5gr fngc (Lyman #224414) w/ Hornady gaschecks

5.4 (start) 1,750fps
6.7 (max) 2,050fps (accurate) Max for accuracy, not pressure.

Hi Guys, I am new here but not new to cast boolits. I have used 2400 for years. Last year was my first pig hunt here in Florida. I used a winchester 94 trapper 44 mag. Load I use is 19 grs with a lyman 429421 bullet sized .431 no gas check. The alloy was pure lynotype. That load really shoots in all my 44's. The bullet entered the hog on the left side high on the shoulder, took out the spine and exited on the left side, with a 44 hole on both sides. That hog was right around 200lbs. The bullet did not shatter when hitting bone. This year on another hunt, I used the same load but toned the bullet alloy down a little. I used 80 percent lynotype and 20 percent wheel weights. Shot a hog through the neck and broke the bones there. The bullet was not recovered with this load either. 44 going in and 44 going out. My super blackhawks also likes this load. I chronied the load out of the rifle, its just a little over 1500 fps. Hogs in florida usually are shot at close range. These works in my gun. Might not in another gun. Proceed at your own risk.

I use 2400 in 7 X 57, .308, .30/40, .30/06, .303, 7.65 X 53, 8 X 57, and .35 Whelen. It's also good sprinkled on my morning oatmeal.

Bill,

How do you keep the microwave from setting that 2400 powder off on your oatmeal? I eat oatmeal in the morning too sprinkled with 2400 but it burn violently in the microwave and I get my butt chewed out by the mrs for dirting the microwave.

Joe, I microwave the oatmeal and water alone. THEN I add the milk, raisins, sugar, and 2400. The milk has cooled the oatmeal below ignition temperature of the 2400 before it is added. If using the new Alliant 2400, remember that only 9/10 tablespoon will give the same flavoring to your oatmeal as did a whole tablespoon of the former Hercules 2400. Bon apetit!

Okay Bill, I'm glad you posted that because I was going by Elmer Keiths formula and he used the old 2400...Thanks Bill :Fire:
