saw an old 99 last weekend....

was crusing the gun show on friday while setting up and saw an odd 99....wel odd to me.
it had what appeared to be an aftermarket stock(end cap missing) and a hex or octagonal bbl( i did not count.
picket it up and its 30-30!....FIRST i had seen, it appeared to be a 1904.1905 production( a dealer friend that deals in these said so)....

i honestly do not remember seeing a 99 30-30.......all the 99's i have sen are rimless or semi rimless cases.

Mike, lots of them in rimmed cal. 303sav, 22HP. They work just fine, I am getting my 22 HP up and running that I bought last month. If you are lucky you might find one in 38-55, or 32-40, 25-35. They are not too common though. The Savages are once you have hunted with them something you don't want to put down. Dave

I have one in 30-30, IIRC it's a 1914 production piece, and it's an excellent shooter. Other than internet auction sites, this is the only one I have seen around this area.

The octagon barreled 1899s were the "B", and were available in 25-35, 30-30, 32-40, and 38-55 as well as the Savage calibers. The "A" was the round barrel, and the "C" was the octagon-to-round. Neither the B or C are commonly seen. My 25-35 was made in 1906 or so.

I have a 1899 A Short Rifle(1919), aka "saddlegun", and a 99 carbine with flat-top buttstock and barrel band forend in 30-30. The carbine is the newest of my (4) and it was made in 1935.

The other is a "G" deluxe, with checkered PG stock, 24" featherweight barrel, takedown, 300 Savage....its a beauty!

99A-1913 303 sav, 99h-1916 also 303 sav, 99eg-1952 250-3000. Ya I like them to. And they are the best hunting lever gun going IMHO.:D

no i did not buy it( lost about 30% of my income last week) no money and it would have to be a project gun.....not good looking at all.

my only 99 right now is a 308 win....
