If anyone out there is doing 2500+ fps with their .308, I'd like to hear about their specific boolits, loads and firearms. I'm seriously looking for a .308 stainless Savage and even if I need to substitute a Krieger barrel for the factory barrel to shoot 1MOA at 2500+, well that'll be fine. If I do replace the factory barrel, I'll probably have it custom chambered to use 8x57 brass (.308LN) and perhaps LBT-LFN's.

john [bass ackwards] does with his 0-6
and larry gibson uses a 308
i.d p.m. them and get their take on it.
bass has e-mailed me a few times and has shared a few loading techniques he uses with regular twist bbls.
and larry uses slower twist bbls.
but.......
they both go very different routes to obtain the same objective.

then again p-dawg uses paper.

get their input, decide which way you wanna go, and stick with it.
it's doable.

just my 2 cents worth.

I'm just starting to load boolits in my rem 308 and tried 38.5 grains H-4895 with a 173 grain 311041 and 5 shots went 5/8 inch at 60 yards.I'm guessing that goes around 2300 to 2400 fps out of my 22 inch barrel. No leading with HT WW.I think that's around 36,000 cup.No sticky extraction and primers looked OK.They were sized .311 and COL was 2.600 with GC at bottom of neck.I think I'm going to like boolits in this rifle,it's only seen condum bullets till now. It's very accurate with 150 grain sierra prohunters.

I have never tried to push cast that fast in my 7.62x51 Mauser, but I have that same mold and may have to reconsider.

It is an Israeli rebarreled (1961) FN, years ago I cut the barrel down to 18" added Timney trigger and scout scoped it. I use a near identical load of 38 grns of IMR-4895 under a J-word 168 grn HP BT and it too is deadly accurate. I can get around 1" (sometimes) at 100 yds, but the son-in-law (much better shot than I) can clover leaf 3 shot groups all day long with that load in it.
