I like casting almost as much as shooting but these mold makers are bizarre. For years all I ever loaded in 45 were 250 gr RNFP with a single lube groove which you can find most anywhere so I would like to cast the same boolit but Lee doesn't even make a mold with a single lube groove, let alone a RNFP 250. Anybody have a 6 cavity they would like to sell? Also need the same in 44, 240 and/or 200 RNFP.

targetshootr, Lee has their own version of a RNFP boolit. The FP is a bit larger than the usual boolit that you are getting from the commercial establishments. It also has two small lube grooves, but a flat base as opposed to the bevel base of the others. Don't dismiss this boolit as it is a good one, and for about $35 bucks from Midway for a six holer, a good deal. Lee calls it 452-255-RF. They also have a .44 cal. 200 grainer of similar design...Ray

I talked to the guy at Lee about that one and he ran through the lubing process which sounded like an extra step on top of sizing and he couldn't say why they don't carry a 250 gr RN that all the commercial casters sell.
I'm trying to simplify things with a single lube groove in all boolits so the Star only needs one set-up and then it's a matter of adjusting the punch up or down. So I called NEI and might get another mold from them with 4 cavities in about a 250 RN and two cavities in the 310 gr that looks like a Keith. But even they don't offer a 250 RNFP like I'm used to.

targetshootr- not that I'm willing to part with mine, but Lyman makes the 429667, 240 gr RNFP, single lube groove; these have proved to be accurate plinkers in both my SBH & RH. They make both a 2 and a 4 cavity. Hope this helps

targetshootr, I believe what your used to is a boolit from a Magma Engineering mould. Take a look...Ray

Midsouth lists the Lyman 452664. It's 250 gr RNFP with a single lube groove and a crimp groove. 2 or 4 cavity available.

Look at the Saeco #955 a 45 250 RNFP single lube groove I use this boolet in all my CAS guns and can be sized up to .454 or .455 depending on your alloy, comes in 2 or 4 cav. and is cheaper than NEI or Magma.
In my mix of 50/50 WW/Lead it runs about 260gr and .455 and shoots like a house afire in all my ruger SA, colt clones and Rossi levers.
They also make a 200 and a 250 RNFP 44 with single lube groove I have one of the 200 44.s
If you want some samples of both, pm me with a snail mail addi, I will send you some

Those all look good but l may make do with the local stuff until the group buy Keith gets here. Although for what I'd spend on 'em I could probably afford another mold. The guy at NEI almost had me buying it in .451 but it sounds like I should get something wider. I use them in old model Rugers and an FA 454/45.

NEI has a .429 200gr RN and a .452 250gr RN that might work. With 3 of each in a 6 cavity the cost would be a little less than two four-cavity molds but would need separating.

I have used the Lyman Cowboy bullet (452664) in the .45 Colt with success using both smokeless and black powder. This is a RF design with one grease groove. It has a wide enough meplat to use for hunting. Using Pistol Pyrodex I have won several black powder matches, both silhouette AND bullseye. I can normally get 75 shots with Pyrodex before cleaning without loss of accuracy. That is pretty dern practical. A case full of Pyrodex is NOT a "light" load. I shoot these in my Ruger Bisley Vaquero. They shoot to the sights at 25 yards.

Lyman also has a similar bullet for .44 that I have yet to try.

Good bullet design. Has a decent crimp groove in the right place for rifles, they claim, and one large grease groove. Sure works well in my Bisley Vaquero.

Available in both 2 and 4 cavity, like someone above has mentioned.

My first mold was Lymans 429421 four cavity which my mags and spls seem to like. When I get the next 44 and 45 molds I'd like to get double use out of each one if possible. For the 44s that's 44 mag/spl and 44-40 and the 45s it's the 454 and 45 colt. Since looking at NEI and the 454424 group buy, I've gotten confused on the ideal diameters for double duty. I'm not sure how far down the Star can size boolits. Example is the 454424. Does it drop at 454 or is it larger by .003 as NEI says theirs do. And if I go with .429 does it drop at that size and can I use it in 44-40 cases or does it need to be 427. All these are in guns with convertible cylinders.
