Let's talk .30 cal boolits

What prompts this is I got my CMP Garand the other day. I took it out and shot it. I had forgotten what fun they are to shoot, and this one's plenty accurate, too! One holers @ 50 yards!
So, i want to cast for it, and have looked at a lot of stock molds. Is the TC nose considered a silhouette design?
I think sometihng in the range of 170 gr sohuld be about right. It's not going to be a hunting rifle, and I really doubt it will shoot cast pills for long yardage, so I don't need a high BC. Are most rifle boos bore riders?
The other thing to mention is a GC is a must. I will try to push this to cycle the action. don't know if that will take 2000 FPS, or a little less, but will need a GC in any case.

I am using 15.0 grains of Trail Boss powder behind a 160gr gas-checked round nose boolit. It works great in my 03-A3, but I am sure it will not work the action of your Garand. This round is a pleasure to shoot, and is very accurate in my rifle.

Takes a little tweaking to cycle M-1's. I don't have one. I ave fired cast through my buddies many times. Cycles the action with good accuracy.

There's a lot of info on cast in the garand herd just do a search. Bruce B has some very good info.

I use 4895 and the Lyman 314299 in my. The 311299 works good to if you can get a mold that casts big enough.

OBXPilgrim has linked you to the famed BobS Load for the Garand and 1903 springfield. This is a fine load. I run this load under a Lee 200 gr GC bullet and have been very pleased with the performance in my Garands.

i seatled on 36grs. of imr4895, no filler, & lyman #311672 with gas check & lube weigh about168grs. sized to .310 with .300 nose, cycles the action quiet well and holds about 2ins. @100yds. about 2150fps.
