What all do you send to your smith when you have a barrel relaced?
Do you have to go through an 01 or can you send it direct?
I have an 03 and the rifle is a 93 spanish mauser.

Any info appreciated.

Far as I know it is perfectly legal for you to ship rifles and shotguns via ups to your gunsmith for repairs or other work. And he will then ship back to you when done. Not up on the rules for handguns. Frank

you can send your rifle to a licensed gunsmith for work, without having any license and he can return it to you.

ATF has had a change in interpertation and considering that a transfer requiring a Brady check so I have read.
I think something on this subject maybe in the "off topic" forum.

Another article I read described ATF changing the practice of manufacturers sending firearms directly to gun scribes for evaluation with no Brady check, not gunsmiths returning firearms to the person that brought it in.

I believe that change requires the gunsmith to log it into his book when he gets it and back out when he sends it back. Since there is no change in ownership there is no need for the ATF to be otherwise involved. This is in effect a change in custody. I may be wrong but that's what I have heard.
