I cant get plain base lead to shoot out of my 30-30. I am using an Ideal 308403 it is a flat point that weighs in with my alloy at 181gr. I have tried a bunch of different loads set at different depths and everything. Best I can get at 50 yards is a group that looks more like a shotgun pattern. I have even tried this bullet without sizing it. The only sizer I have is a Lee .309 and I size all my 30 cal bullets with that.

What powders have you tried and how much? What is in "my alloy"? Were the boolits water dropped or heat treated, and what lube have you been using? Any leading in your barrel? If so, which end? It's all in the details.... except when it isn't.

No way even an educated guess can be give with the lack of informatioin

1. What is your alloy?
2. What kinds of powder?
3. How much powder?
4. What kind of rifle, Winchester, Marlin MG or what?

Ha, no one but me recognizes that boolit number yet. If you want to sell it, I want it. You won't do any good shooting it like your trying. It was made to just slip half the rear band into a fire formed case and slide the whole arrangement into the chamber for target shooting. It wasn't meant to be sized either.

I just hit on this post too. I recognize that number as a variation of a Pope mould.

I'd bet you are pushing it too fast.

Interesting.....I didnt know this thing was worth that type of coin. It cast a nice bullet and I was hoping to be able to get this thing up around 1900fps for hunting purposes, DANG. I will give the halfass seating a try out of my 1903 Spingfield to see if it does what people say it is suppose to.

I tryed it earlier in my 1903, I was loading it like any other bullet with a crimp and such, but accuracy wasnt what I was looking for and switched to the other heavy bullet I cast, cant recall the number but it is an Ideal, that shoots like a house on fire. Now how do I get a fire formed case's spent primer out without neck sizing.

Oh by the way I was using it in my Savage 340 30-30

Powders I tried:
Reloader 7
IMR 4350
H335

My alloy is about about 75% pure 10% range scrape and 15% WW, this is just a guess as I dont weigh before mixin just kinda all goes into ingots at the same time.

I was using Tumble Lube because I didnt feel like getting the oven hot to pan lube.

I quenched them along with all of my other bullets except the softnose and muzzleloader bullets I make.

DK,

You can get a universal decapper die from Lee or RCBS. It is just a decapping stem in a die holder. It doesn't resize the brass at all and never touches anything but the primer.

Buy a deprimer die. They don't have a sizer mandrel on them. Run them 1200-1500 FPS and they will still kill deer out to 100 yds. Shot placement is everything. Mark

Thats alot of fun alot like shooting 22lr's. Being a cheap SOB is didnt want to spend money on a special die so I just ran fired 30-06 shells into my 45-70 decapper, perfect!..set a new Federal Larger Rifle Primer and went from there.
I loaded it with 8.0 grains of Unique with a Cotton Filler. Was light and accuracy was pretty good off hand at 40 yards. I loaded it with 10.0gr of Unique and a Cotton Filler, shot this test load with a bench rest, 1.5" at 50 yards.

Thanks guys, now when I want to shoot my 03 and not make alot of noise I ll load up about 20 of these and go out to the target butt.
