Have had excellent results accuracy wise since I switched from small rifle primers to small pistol primers in my Hornet and K-Hornet with cast. Question is if the same would apply to 222 and or 223 with cast as well. I could probably just try it with cast blts in these two ctgs, but am reasonably sure that someone out there has already done it and has results and loads. If so would be appreciative of your results and loads if you were willing to share same. In my hornet and K, I have the best luck with 225438 in both as is and HP. 225415 is ok, but not quite as accurate as 438. Would like to find loads for 222/223 with 415 and heavier cast. I thank in advance all who respond to this thread.

I use WSPs in .22 Hornets and the 25-20 (M23 Savage) with both J and cast bullet loads. I also use WSPs in the .222 and .223 with faster powders and am beginning to use them with medium powders such as 4895 with cast bullets. I do still stick with WSRs or 7 1/2 Rems when using .223 cast loads in the ARs though. The WSP primers most often, not always though, give more consistent ignition than SR primers.

As long as you stick to the pressure limits for them, small pistol primers will work just fine. For standard small pistol primers, I'd personally stick to under 25,000 psi. Small pistol magnum primers, with their reportedly stouter cups, are good for about 35,000 - or .357 Magnum pressures.

Thanks Guys! Larry, would you mind sharing your 222/223 loads. I also am interested in trying these two cals with med burning pdrs. Accordingly would like to find accurate loads (1-2" at 100 would satisfy) that are at least half a case full. Right now in Ruger #3 K-Hornet, am shooting 10.2 gr of IMR 4227 under 225438 (44gr) HP, and getting fairly consistant 1 1/4-1 1/2" groups with an occaisional at right around an inch and am quite satisfied with that. Have not chronoed it, but feel that it must be around the 2300 or so bracket. Again, Thanks!
