I had this knife for a little while but it didn't have a worthy sheath. It does now. The blade length is 5.5 inches and 11" OAL. I just love making leather works (I'm novice).

I just gave this outfit to my FIL, he was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He really liked it. Sorry to say it will return home, unfortunately too soon.

Love ya paw-paw........

My FIL is currently driving his Brother back and forth between Broken Hill and Adelaide (800 mile round trip) so that he can be treated for skin cancer that had eaten away about 20% of his face. FIL is upset because when his Brother dies (looking very likely, unfortunately), FIL will be the last of his family.

Very nice work on the sheath. I like a bit of leather work (not the sort that some seem to like), and I have made a few sheaths (not as flash as yours), along with a boot to go on the stock of my hi wall. Next project is a cartridge belt for shooting walk backs with the hi wall.

That's not only a good looking sheath but shows intelligent design and excellent workmanship.

Good work!

No I've ordered several sq feet of Double Shoulders and the such over the past year. So yeah I just cut out a few feet to work with what ever project I fixated on at the time. Um I saw a picture on the net of a similar sheath. I spend time looking at pictures then commence a project. But the design on the sheath was done by what called a pear shader. Turned out pretty good I think

One of the biggest time consumeres is the setup and layout. Course once thats done you now have pattern.

I'm old school. I do must everthing like they did it in the olden days. I love had stiching and making waxes to use on plain linen 5 cord thread.

Thanks for asking......

Oh here is another success. I made this for my baby glock I also have matching mag holders just to mention a few items I've designed..

Those certainly are nice pieces of leather work, Sprue. The quality and craftsmanship here looks like you could go commercial. You'd probably need some fancy equipment for cutting and sewing.

I don't know diddle squat about leather work, hadn't done any since boy scout days, but I do remember the "pear shader". It must have been my favorite shaper.

Sorry to hear about the FIL's illness. I have experienced a similar incident and know that it can take a toll on all family and friends. Hang in there, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Heres work in Progress. This one is not turning out too well. Right off the bat I screwed up the geomeric stamping on the front side, of course! Back side looks good.

Lately, I've had a knack for Mora knives . This one is 6" blank that that I made the handle too. I don't know what the hard wood is. I don't think its oak. possibly maple ??I just found a piece in my scrap wood barrel.

The sheah however, its been a pain for some reason (win few loose a few). This is my first lacing attempt an it LOTS of fun if you know what I'm saying. I've made many Turks Heads but this lacing is kicking my tail. As you can see, I still have about 7 or so more holes to lace up. I haven't done any thing to the belt loop. Its gonna be a dangler type system.

Anyway I'm sure there will be some modification to both the sheath, mainly the knife handle. I cant decide to leave it at the length it is now ( for a lanyard hole) of simply shorten it up a bit.

As for the new Mora Blade I forced a little patina on it. The bolster was cut from a piece of scrap aluminum.

Heres another recent completion, it can be carries on the belt or with the strap:

And another:

And.....my beater that I had since I was a teen ager. As a kid it still bears the marks of a grinder. I get them polished out one of these days. Its very sharp right now however...

Sprue, don't know which to admire most, your leatherwork or your Mora knives. Mora is the best-kept secret in the cutlery world. I have one of the red guardless handle styles and one of the black/blue nodels (mine's all black) as shown in your pictures. Factory sheaths are pretty cheesy, but what great blades!

Next attempt, I'm gonna make a handle for yet another Mora Blank. I'm thinking of turning the actual handle (Locust) only about 1/2 inch thick. Although it will have some finger contour. Once thats don I'm going to make a turks head out of od green 550 para to cover and act as the handle

Sounds interesting anyway........

Oh btw, I received a 5" blank the other day and the Mora Logo was etched (gold). That sucks and will prob become the norm

I love that sheath.

I too, seldom like tooled leather, but that tooling is very attractive and between the tooling and the leather color it would be a sheath I would be PROUD to own!

I was about to leave you a PM and ask what you've been doing with yourself, but now I can SEE what you been doing! Good work you got there!

I like the lacing too- it is tedious, but it does look good when it's done. I've never seen anyone do it on a knife sheath, usually biker wallets. I like your black one above, and the brown sheath for the red handled knife ,too. Great looking stuff!

Have you tried a basket weave pattern yet?

Hey, I just remembered- you can use egg whites to burnish the edges of your leather holster and sheaths to get smooth, glazed edges. Don't know if you knew that or not.

I'll be watching for more of your work examples to be posted.

As others have posted, I like the tooled design as done with the pear shader (whatever the heck that is) :) Very attractive!

You can take a very, I mean very sharp... like razor sharp thin blade and with care, shape and "shave" the raw edges, put a radius on them, then burnish. Judicious use of sandpaper can also help shape the edges.

405... yeah I do use an edger and burnish most things. How ever, My FIL wanted it actually before it was 100% done. Theres always and iron in the fire as you know.

Thanks for the kinds words.

My FIL btw, at this point, by looking at him you would not think he was a very sick man. He's takes both Kemo (??) and Radiation. But his cancer it the worst type there is I've been told. Its spreading very fast...... He retired from CSX 10 yrs ago and turned 72 last May. Sorry to say but the dreadful / worst of time is accelerating. He's a great no BS type of person....

So sad that us humans/families have to sustain such cruelty and pain as well.

Charlie.. I would guess that you have far more leather experience than I but plain old water sounds easier with a boner :holysheep or sharpie actually

Okay Leather hobbyists....

Lets see some of your work ! Come on :)

It's been years since I did any leather tooling, etc.

Just crack the egg and separate the yolk out, and rub on the white, then burnish, IIRC.
When done, cook the rest, and make a samich!
You got me beat, buddy, in leather work, for sure!

Sorry about the FIL, too.
Dad was like that with his cancer- couldn't tell he was sick until the last two weeks before he died. Then it was fast.

As I remember way back when the made a tool to skive the edges and also a bone tool to round and burnish the edges (course today it is probably plastic).

HEY, CHECK OUT THE NEW mAKER sTAMP.............. just got it. Don' 'n know why, I just make stuff for me and or to give to family members. Been doing this about a year and haven't made 1 cent. Talk about deficit. No really, I got into this only to enhance my collections............ I'm not a Vendor.

That is a nice pattern on the belt!
You're getting pretty good at that, aren't ya?

Turks head parachute cord- now that took some time doing, I'd bet!
Looks real neat.
I'll bet you'll be build samurai swords and putting that on the handles next!

That's what I need to wrap onto my rondez-vous throwing knife handles!
Where did you learn how to do that?
I have a whole spool of camo para cord that I can use! :bigsmyl2:

a great way to burnish the edges is to use a piece of canvas and saddle soap. You can also use a grooved piece of delrin/nylon on a handle, but he canvas is quick and easy. You finish teh edges witht eh edger and then put a bit of saddle soap on a pice of canvas and after a bit of elbow grease you have a very nice edge. You can do this after you have given color to the leather also.

Sprue,

That crazy stamp is a royal pain. One must do a little and then walk away before you get glassy eyed. It is very nice looking stamping when done , but a pain to do.

Manlyit... tks for the tip.

Charlie... Youtube, where else, along with a LOT of patience. I've got turks heads in my drawer at the bench just waiting on something to put them on. I've got them on a lot of things around here, now that knife. On youtube look up 16x3 TH or visa versa. That guy is alsume. Beeen playing with knots too, lots of fun !

I just recieved 300 feet of new para 550
