New to casting and am wanting to cast some of these for 50 yard and in game.Mostly coyotes, hogs and maybe the small deer we have around here.
I use digtal calls and shoot a lot of 22-250 and 223 and I am wanting to see this season if I can get the coyotes in to around 50 to 25 yards and give the pistol a shot for close work.Any info on this boolit as well as load info would be great, I also see that this is not a gas check design as well? Also what home made lube would be good as well?

Thank
Jason

Welcome to the forum!

358429 is a great boolit and one I have used a lot in both 38 and 357 and just started using them in a 35rem.
You may find that the nose is a little too long and will require that you trim your 357 brass shorter then normal. What handgun will you be shooting these from? H110, Blue Dot, and 2400 are all excellent powder choices to get the most from your 357. As you noted it is not a gas check design but that is not a problem for 357 velocities provided you do your homework. Slug you chambers and be sure the boolits are one to two thousandths over the size of the chamber and leading will not be an issue. I have not made my own lube yet so not going to comment on that, but a search on the forum is bound to turn up some useful info.

Taurus 608 don't know how to slug yet but will learn the gun looks a lot like a smith but less money.

Thanks

if you look in the lube section you'll see a ton of lube info.
iirc that boolit has a rounded lube groove and you'll have to mess with the viscosity a little to help keep all the lube in place.

There was a problem fitting this boolit in some Smiths. Check the oal of the cartridge in the manuals and measure your chamber length. If it is too short you can cut down some 357 brass, chamber in 38 or look at the lighter 358477 or RCBS 150 KT both of which shoot well for me. Any of these will do well for coyotes and fox as will the 429 if it fits in your gun.

I have a 608 that I use this bullet in. You'll have to crimp over the front band to fit the cylinder. My cylinder mounths slugged right at 358. But you need to check yours. I load 15 grains of h110.
Keep an eye on the ports. If you get leading it will show up there first.

I shoot that slug in a Ruger Security-Six and it is accurate. I could deal with a coyote at 50 yards, but I would need a good rest. At 25 yards, it will stay at 1.5 inches with a fair rest…

I can seat in the seating groove with my Ruger. Other handguns may have shorter cylinder. That can be a problem, but it has been address in previous posts…

When I first started using this boolit, I used Lee Liquid Alox. Messy, but it worked. It can be applied with out any boolit sizing equipment—that is why I started with it…

I now size the boolit to 0.358” and use Carnauba Red. I will stay with that…

H-110 and Lil’Gun work very well for full power loads…

Good-luck…BCB

+1 on MT Gianni.

358477 is great, near identical to RCBS 38-150-K and both are superb if you
need a shorter nose. 358429 is a wonderful boolit design, but intended for
.38 Spl brass so can be too long with .357 brass in large frame Smiths - amazingly
the medium and smaller frame (L and K) Smiths have LONGER cylinders than
the larger frame and are just fine with the 358429.

I shoot all to full magnum or reg velocities with no leading in a wide number of .357s
and .38 Spls. GC not needed, air cooled wwt is hard enough with a decent lube and
PROPER FIT (throat diam min, most likely throat diam +.001 for .38/.357).
