We put together a .243 for her to play with at the range we just joined. Her first time out tonight went better than expected. She ripped off a .7" 3 shot group at 100 and then decided to give a try at 300.....I was amazed to find a sub 2" 3 shot group at 300. She's what you'd call "Purdy Happy" right now. Having so much fun we didn't get the 45-70 out to send some lead down range, but it was a good night all in all.

Cool, nothing like a woman that shoots well.

Eagles, you want me to answer that question on a public forum after seeing how she shoots?

Awesome.243 is a great caliber!

This is my first experience with the 243, and I like it. This all started with a Remington SPS Varmint in 22-250 I put together for myself. Loved it so much we picked one up for her in 243. After watching her big beautiful 6mm bullets buck the wind and hit home so nicely, my romance with my 22-250 isn't so hot. Maybe it's time for a 338....

Doc, 243 is great ctg, but don't knock 22-250. Three weeks ago in Wy, I got confirmed p-dog kills with 22-250 #1 Ruger at 460, 468, and 564 yds. Have longer kills with 243 I will admit.

I love my 22-250. I haven't shot it past 100 yards on paper yet, but it'll hold .5" groups with several loads. (This rifle was purpose built for a PDOG hunt next year) That being said, the BC of a 55Gr Nosler(.267), though good for a .224 bullet, doesn't help me much in the wind compared to a 105Gr amax with a BC of .5+. I'm new at the judging, adjusting for wind, I need all the help I can get.

And, of course, the other question is: "Does she have a sister?"

Doc, if you want to learn shooting in the wind and not break the bank or shoot out a barrel just get your self a good 22lr to practice. There is a good article on 6mm BR comparing a 22Lr to a 308 Win with 175gr MK.

I'll look for the article. It's funny you say that, I just finished mounting a mil-dot scope on my 10-22 and have been working practicing hold over and wind reading with it at 100.

6mm/243 is great stuff.

You want to fall in love with the 6mm bullet all over again?
Try a 243 Ackley, with an 87gr V-max at 3400fps...... trajectory like a frozen rope to 300yds.

Go to 6mm BR.com and look under Articles Archive and scroll down to 22Lr Rim Fire matches.

Sounds like she had better not enter in the postal match . . . she might win!

Trust me, I wasn't expecting a new rifle, with basic loads that haven't been tested, with a new optic, with a new rest, with a new shooter at 300 to have a 2" group out there.

But I hear ya, I won't bother running....

Well it wasn't a fluke, she made a couple real nice groups again tonight. 1 around 2.5" and another that had 2 tight with a flyer due to wind.

I on the other hand, did not do well. I did manage to get repeatable on the 500 yard ram.

Wind is still a killer.
