I am working up a project involving a Greener action and a .577/.585 barrel and .577 BPE brass. Anyone know of a source for blunt-nosed, solid-base bullet mould of this diameter in the 600-650-grain range? Lots of hollow-base stuff out there, and really heavy ones for the Nitro Express, but I am hoping to find something close to what would have been factory from Eley or Kynoch etc. in the late 19th century.

.............Other then a custom maker, I'd try CBE in Australia. Another thought would be to buy a 58 cal mould that comes closest to your desired diameter and alter the baseplug.

Like this. However it still had the HB and it wasn't .585". Not all HB moulds are set up the way this one was where you could merely drop the base pin down to make the slug longer. You'd probably have to remove the HB part of the core pin and go with that weight, whatever it might add. I think Raphine makes a .585" mould, and maybe also RCBS.

Abert Rim: NEI # 395 or 396 Might work by leaving off a baseband(see p.14 oif their online catalog) I think I remember something about baseband deletion not putting one in their "customMade" cost category.. Surely nothing bad to say re:the CBE idea,though..~!! Best, Onceabull

Rick, Onceabull, thanks for the thoughts. I hd looked at NEI first, but forgot about CBE.

Have an e-mail in to the Ammo Dump re: the CBE .585 650-grain bullet mold.

Well, Ammo Dump replied to my inquiry. CBE molds take four weeks. The 7-585-650 goes for $83 U.S. plus $13 airmail. The greenback has indeed lost some ground to the AUS $.
