Don't know this person, he may be one of us nuts here, but I was reading his review of Hornady gas checks on the Midway site, and he stated the following:

Jim Ramski of Vernon, TXDate posted: 4/12/2010 I find Gas Checks not usually necessary with Alox until over 1600 fps but I do use them with some hot loads from 1200. I did find the best way to crimp on was to use the Hornady Cam-Lok bullet puller.. Put base of cast bullet in collet & tighten to make a groove in base(before lubing).

This solved a problem I recently created for myself when I lapped a mold and found the gas check base enlarged too much. So much so that seating them was hit or miss. I used this to reduce the base dia first, works like a charm.
Apologies if this is common knowledge, but I did not find it in searching, thought it meritted a remention.

Take a look at Swede Nelsons gas check seater with the swage feature.
