I have heard ported barrels will shave cast boolits, and accuracy is poor. Can anyone shed some light on this and thier exeperiences, or is this a lost cause? The rifle in question is a ported guide gun in 45 70. Thanks

I have an 1895g ported that loves cast and paper patched bullets. I have never had to clean lead out of the ports so it must not be shaving much off. Accuracy is as good or better than the few jacketed loads I have tried.

Ditto on that. At most you will get some lead vapors that discolor the bbl just off the ports.

I have a G22 with a ported storm lake barrel, it gets alot of cast cranked through it, ive never had the slightest problem with accuracy, or noticed any different markings on recovered boolits.

I had a Lone Wolf barrel in my G35 that would shave stinkin jacketed bullets. I sent it back to Lone Wolf.

The only ported gun I have is my 1911 and it has never let me down and accuracy is as good or better than the non ported barrel on the same frame. Back when MagnaPort first came out early 70's i shot a ported M27 to test they system and had no problems after 1000 rounds of cast.

I shoot a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 that is ported, no problems. Also a Tarus Raging Hornet in 480 Ruger, no port problems.

So here's what I've found. I have a 1911 comped race gun and it builds up lead in the comp like crazy. So no shooting any lead in that gun...

I also have a S&W Model 52-2 38spl automatic that has a 6" Barsto barrel in it and it is Margaported. As you all know, a 52-2 can't shoot anything but full lead wadcutters. You know, that thing does not shave lead in any way shape or form...

Hogwash.

Guide gun, comped 1911s in .38 Super & .45 ACP, two different ported .44
Mag revolvers say it isn't a problem.

I get some lead buildup in the comp, and near the ports that will clean
off with an oak scraper or usually a fingernail, no finish damage.

My 7 mag. is ported as is my .416 Taylor not to mention my S&W M-29 .44 mag. Haven`t had a problem with any of them with leading after quite a few rounds of cast thru each.Robert
