I have my eye on a Left handed Mauser 3000 at a local pawn shop. Asking price $500. A quick search of the net did not turn up much. Does anyone know about these rifles? What is you opinion.

Thank you

Go here http://www.mauserwaffen.de/index.php?id=105&lang=en

that little dotted line chart on top from 1871 to 2003 is how the models progressed by year. Just click on each dot. Strange website but it works. Basically it said the model 2000 and 3000 were like the model 98 except it has a short extractor and I believe ejector.

Well, you're in luck...a little. I have one in .270. Slickest bolt gun I have ever cycled...like the bolt is on ball bearings. Shoots superbly too.

They were actually made by Heym for Mauser. Mauser during that era were mostly making sewing machines, hand tools and other misc. stuff. The worst part is the trigger....sems as if it didn't adjust readily and the triggerguard and floorplate are aluminum or pot metal....such a shame for an otherwise well made gun. I haven't fired mine for several years...but always wanted a Mauser 4000 in 223...same gun, shorter action. They were made as the 2000, 3000 and 4000. Maybe the 2000 was a plain jane version. I have seen 3000's in 7 mag. The recoil lug is welded to the receiver...weird but it works.

I think $500 is a tad rich.....but given the cost of Remchesters nowadays...that's probably a fair price. I am a SAKO fanatic but I confess, there never was a SAKO as slick working as a Heym made Mauser 3000..never seen anything like one.

I have two Model 2000's. As Jumptrap mentioned they are made by Heym, not Mauser despite all the Mauser markings. The two I have, one is a 375H&H and the other is a 270 and both were fitted with double set triggers. Mine were built in 70's.

They are both relatively light for that era and balance very well. They have very slick actions. Quality wise they are head and shoulders better than most options in that price range, especially considering whats normally available to lefties. They are not CRF but that reqt is over-rated in my view.

You may have a little trouble finding a scope mount to fit if it doesnt come equipped with mounts.

Thanks for the information guys! Is this the same Heym that makes double rifles?

Sure is. I think the Heym equivalents are SR-20, SR-30 & SR-40 for the Mauser 2000, 3000 & 4000 respectively. You can still buy parts from Heym for these rifles but they are quite pricey. The Heym folks are helpful though. Best establish that the rifle is in good condition etc.

I am the proud owner of a Mauser 3000L in 7mm Mag. Not my favorite cal, but when you are a south paw, sometimes you have to take what comes your way. Pix to follow.
