Does anyone else have a bucket list of guns.
These would be guns you either want to shoot, or own before you kick the bucket. What's on your list?

I've had the good fortune to either own or at least shoot most of the guns I wish to. HOWEVER Always thought it would be really cool to press the go button on an mini-gun just for a second or two.

I keep a "want list". It has proven to be a good thing.
A couple of years ago, I came into some money and managed to check off a few items from the list. Without the list to keep me on track, it's very possible I could have blown it all in the first gun shop I saw.

I am sure every body has one of these Holland & Holland double rifles on their list:

I actually got to shoot one of these in .375 Flanged. Seems that a farmer in N.E. Iowa had a foreign exchange student from Saudia Arabia stay with his family for a year. The farmer flew back to Saudia Arabia with the student to meet the student's family. They had a lay-over on their flight in London for a few hours. They walked by the Holland & Holland shop and went in to look around. The farmer said he would love to have one of these some day. About 2 months after the farmer returned to the states, a UPS truck shows up with a package from London.

I was having coffee with the farmer and saw an empty .375 Flanged brass on his kitchen table. I said, "Is that a .375 Holland & Holland cartridge?" He said, "Yep, do you want to shoot it? We went and destroyed a pop can plinking with it. It was a one shot plink.

1. Uberti 1873 Winchester in .44 Special.

2. WWII era 1911 of some sort.

But right now I would settle for a Marlin 1894 Cowboy in .357 magnum. Saw my first one a couple of months ago, it was $ 850.00 and I could not afford it.

Other interests I would probably never get around to, Thompson Center Encore in .357 Maximum. I have not read "Unintended Consequences" lately, but when I do, the desire to shoot large caliber rifles will pop up again.

I would also like to visit Argentina and go to the Knob Creek machine gun shoot.

Probably more information than you wanted, but there it is.

+1 on both statements. Going logging with a Mini is a closet fantasy of mine.

Oh, and I would pay dearly to run just a foot or two through ANY of the .50s on a B-17 in flight, took the ride but they wouldn't let me shoot anything!

I was pondering something in the .416 taylor neighborhood until I shot a box worth of full snort paper patched 330 gr loads in my .375 H&H the other day....kinda cured me of that pipe dream...for the moment.

I've had a bit of a hankering for a .375 JDJ barrel for a while. Probably around 16-18" with a JP brake. That way I can still use it for a contender carbine barrel but it wouldn't be out of the question for pistol use either.

a good single shot; winchester 1885 in 30-30,38-55, or maybe even 45-70. 30-40 K might be good also.

Or a Ruger NO. 1 in an old classic caliber or maybe Win 375.

For now, have to settle for the poor boys version; Handi Rifle.

Having read of the various guns on other shooters bucket lists I have to reflect on the fact that I have owned or do own most of them. Sadly, like many who will read this, I let most of them slip through my fingers. I do still own many fine single shot rifles and a dozen or so of assorted pistols. I also own some very nice bolt action rifles, including a model 70 Win. made in 1939. I also have enough reloading gear including molds, gas checks, dies, powder ,brass, measures, scales and primers to keep five men busy for a very long time. The sad part in reflecting on these things is the fact that here in the Peoples Republic of California, it is becoming more and more difficult to find a place to shoot them. What makes it even worse is the fact of my advancing years which makes one want to simply say, to heck with it and sell them all.

A mountain gun in 460 S&W/.410 , preferably a 98.

A real SuperPose ,12 full/mod, 12 mod/imp. cyl , 20 mod/mod bbl sets.

1 each long slide 1911s 38 super 45 acp

To shoot ?

Just once to pull the trigger on anything actually owned or carried by any of the hero/anti-heros of our country , William Bonney's 45 or Bat Masterson's, Audy Murphy's Winchester Model 12 trap , or Lincon or Jackson's "game"gun , Cornwalace's pistol , I'd probably be giddy for weeks to trigger John Wayne's Green Berret M16.

I've shot or owned (or both) a fair number of the guns listed here (only the Thompson in the rock'n'roll category, and it wasn't mine-); lots of nice guns, but I've found that sometimes wanting something (gun, car, motorcycle, boat, etc.) is a lot more fun than owning it! But since I can never remember that until it's too late, the next two on my list are a suppressed .22 pistol and a slim medium caliber side-by-side double rifle in something like 7x57R or similar. Now, if I can only scrounge up enough money for 'em before I die!

I have either had, still have, or shot most of the guns on the list so far, except for a double rifle.
It makes me realize how lucky I am.
I'm not rich, but persistent, and lucky enough to have friends with full auto collections too.

I have been thinking about a high-grade Browning 1895 an awful lot for the past couple of years.
Maybe it's time to thin the milsurp herd and buy just one more really nice rifle.....[smilie=s:

I suppose the most exotic rifles I've fired were: a caplock built in the mid 19th century, a Ruger .416 Rigby, and a Browning Automatic Rifle. With the exception of a S&W Registered .357 I've shot everything that has passed through my hands including collectors items. All of them were built to be used, not looked at.

So what does that leave? I would still like to own a Lancaster rifle in .54 and an Ohio or Vincent in .40.

The coolest thing I can think of would be firing a .50 Browning M2 on a B17 or B24, or a .30 Browning M2-AN from the rear seat of a dive bomber. In either case they should be fired at a drone for that real aerial gunnery feel.

A Model 121 in .22WRF (Remington Special)
A Model 25 in .25-20.... or .32-20... maybe just both!
A Model 14 1/2 in .38-40.

Lever Winchesters....

A Model 65 in .218 Bee.
An original Model 86 carbine in .45-70 or .40-65.

And one odd duck..... A Winchester Model 10 in .401 Winchester Self Loading...

Unfortunately, I missed my chance to shoot a Thompson on my first ship. Don't remember how, I just did. I've fired the grease gun, but its rate of fire was so slow that it was a disappointment.

I've fired almost all the current military small arms up through .50. Haven't shot the Beretta service pistol, but have no desire to.

As for guns I'd like to own, a USFA .45 Colt 4-3/4 would be near the top of the list. You know, the one with the color cased frame and blued cylinder, barrel and grip frame. Gorgeous. I'd like to own an 03A3 and a 1917 Enfield in nice condition to go with my Garand and carbine. An M1A would be a good addition to the safe, as would a P08 Luger and one of the .45 1911s I carried for MANY watches aboard ship. No, not one like them, I want one of the ones I carried for sentimental reasons.

When I lived in Virginia back in the 70s, I wanted a drilling (12 ga over .30-06 with the .22 RF insert for one of the 12 ga barrels) because it would have been the perfect game gun there. For a month and a half or two, ALL species are in open season and a person armed with a drilling would be ready for them all. I was young enough back then not to be bothered by the weight of it.

I'd like to have that Nikko Golden Eagle 20ga O/U I passed up many years ago in Kinlaw Arms in Newport News, VA. I drooled over it many times but never whipped out the wallet. And speaking of shotguns, I'd like to have back the Beretta pump 12ga I sold off back there. What a dunce I was. I've never seen another. My wife knows I have my eyes on a Beretta Silver Pigeon IV in 20 ga. That one's on the short list. I've passed over many a Smith M-53 .22 Jet over the years. No matter when I see one, they're always the same percentage of $$ out of my reach.

And speaking of Smiths, I'd like to have a pair each of M-57 5 inch and M-586 5 inch. I'm a sucker for 5 inch barrels. Long enough for a good sight radius, short enough to sit down with in a hip holster. And yes, I already have a M-27 5 inch. I've smoothed out the action and it's one of the best I own for DA shooting. A .22-32 Kit Gun with a 4 inch barrel and adjustable sights would be a nice piece, as well as a K-32 6 inch to go with my .32 H&Rs.

I want to take the Wyoming trip with my son for pronghorn and prairie dogs before I kick off. The 6mm BR bolt gun will be built soon for the goats, and I have a number of eligible .22 CFs for the dogs. One of these days I'd like to get my .257 Roberts M-722 Remington rebarreled. I bought it used with the throat rough as a cob. I'd like to shoot cast with it. I'd also like to turn loose a heavy cast lead, plain base boolit from a Sharps, .45 or .50 caliber, powered by Holy Black. But it would have to be aimed at a VERY LARGE bison, north of I-80. Don't care which plains state, but I'd much prefer rolling plains to any other terrain. It's my vicarious connection to the era of the Plains Indians Wars.

Stew

I too, have bought what might be considered collectibles to some and shot them. I think of it as like being in a time machine.

It's a really hard question for me because I feel so fortunate for all the great guns I have shot, though I by no means consider my experience to be exemplary in comparison to folks who were born about 20 years before me.

Great guns I have owned and/ or shot:

Smith 29
Smith 27

Rock River/ ALexander Arms .50 Beouwulf
Weatherby Mark V Accumark .338/.378 Weatherby

I'm sure I have forgotten a few good ones.

For my bucket list:

I would like to shoot an M2HB until the barrel droops and keep shooting through until the end falls off.

I would like to shoot and own a U.S. Government Property marked .45

Anything John Wayne or Clint Eastwood ever shot.

Frankenfarb,

If you think the .375 #1 kicks, try a #3 in .45-70 with the load jacked up to near max. It has an aluminum butt plate and is a tad lighter than the #1.

I didn't get a chance to shoot it, but... http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showpost.php?p=575065&postcount=140

I always drooled over the English double barreled shootguns from one of the great makers and double rifle just incase I ever get to go to Africa. I had a chance to buy a cased Manton double rifle in Pakistan in 1964 for $200 I passed it up and have been kicking myself since. I was in the Navy and could have brought it home with no problems.
