that I dumped two 5gal buckets worth of range scrap bullet jackets into the dumpster today. Took them to the recycler and he didnt want them.

Anyone know of a cost effective way to smelt the jackets down to close to pure copper and turn it into ingots?

You need to melt the copper, then pour the ingots. All lead will vaporize, all other contaminants.
You will need to build a furnace.
It can be done easily though.

Suggest you put out the word on www.gbocannons.com .

Someone there will want the copper to melt with tin to make bronze to cast into a cannon!

If you're selling it, put it on the classifieds daughter-board.

Most of mine is pretty dirty, corroded or oxidized is a better word for it, doesn't look real nice and shinny after it has been in the ground for a few years . . .

Or mix with Zinc from your bad WW to make brass - the original lead free bullet - LOL

I took in 26 pounds of dirty old copper jackets just a few weeks ago. I had almost thrown them out because the big scrap yard in town had told me they didn't want them at all. I went to another yard in town, and they gave me #2 copper price; $2.42 per pound!

I thought about figuring out how to melt down the copper, too. If you try it, be darn careful about the fumes. The hazards of melting lead may be overblown, but breathing vaporized lead will do you in for sure!
