Run yourself a fan on yourself that will help with the heat and the fumes.

Total lack of dedication is all I am hearing.

BTW it is mid 70's here, no humidity at the moment and it feels like it could rain. and I have shot a bunch of 35remmy rounds this week in my 1951 336SC trying to look like less of a blind moron with the stock iron sights.

Well it close to 100 F here today in NC,feels like walking in warm soup outside. When I get over to my casting buddies house in a couple day I'm casting some bullets no matter what. It's rough at times but my new to me molds aren't waiting for cooler weather. I'll do enough to do some testing till things cool off some.

Can you cast in the AM when it might not be so bad?? Back when I was a runner living in Memphis, I used to run in the early AM

The temp here is going to be at least 104 for the next couple of days and will probably go up from there but the humidity is around 10% or so. Any casting will be done starting at 0600 but I have a good supply of boolits on hand and before long it'll be too hot to go to the range (outdoor), even early AM anyway so I should be OK.

Glad to hear it's not just me. I'm debating whether to shoot IPSC matches the next couple of months. That means 4-1/2 hours or so in the heat and a lot of it in the direct sun. It takes 2 days to feel good again after that. It's really tough when we have 2 matches back to back on the same weekend. I cast in air conditioned comfort, though. :drinks:

I try not to cast in the heat here, but sometimes I must. I have a tall, wide shield that keeps the moving air off the pot and the mold, but gives me a decent breeze. It's still tough, but if you have no bullets that's tougher.

I just had to try my new molds from BaBore (both 6.5) about 2 hours was enough for me, 100+ & 90% humidty. Great molds & real nice boolits, looked like someone had rolled me around with a 2 in fire hose by the time I got done lol.
Ya just gotta do what ya gotta do.

Well guys just look at it this way you dont have to wait as long for the lead to melt or mold to heat up so you get more boolits faster

Monday morning I cast over 350 of the .32 Keith boolits. 85 degrees on the screened in porch. I was casting boolits and sweating bullets! Keep hydrated, a breeze if you can, and it can be done. I was done in an hour, though. Thank God for 6 cavity molds!

well i just tried, run about 100ish(an hour) but with a crappy mould and the heat and thunderstorms it was just too much.

Caasting in this heat is like nothing compared to doing a build up on plowshares.
The plow had been so idiotized that the points were worn to where the frame was getting reduced.
I have to build up about 1 1/2 " on the plows. Thats going to be about 4 pounds or welding rods.
Even the landslides are worn off in the leading sides.

I can remember shooting a 4th of July IPSC match in Wichita Falls, Texas about 10 or 12 years ago. They had a range in the bottom of some gravel pits. No wind, and no shade. All I remember is walking around and constantly dipping my hand towel in the ice water in my cooler and wearing it on my head to keep my brain from cooking.

Maybe that explains why I am the way I am.

I remember summer in Meridian Miss. I never in my life knew what HOT was till then, and I've never seen anything to match it. Arizona, Okinawa, the Philippines, North and South Carolina have nothing to match it. They say the Canal Zone (Panama) is similar or hotter, but I've never had the displeasure.

Temps in the high 90's/low hundreds and humidity that was just off the scale. We had 8 or 9 "black flag" days in a row. Us po' northern boys would drop like flies just lifting a can of beer to our parched lips. The flight line at Yuma was heaven compared to the assembly area at Meridian.

put an iv in the fridge for a half hour or 45 min. then insert it in your wrist and squeeze. we used to do this over seas, (except for we didnt have a fridge, we used conciscated ice) youll feel the cold creep over you body, its quite refreshing.

I must really be hooked.....it was 102 here yesterday with heat index much higher than that but I still managed to melt about 170 lbs of wheel weights. End product was 110 lbs of ww ingots and about 25 lbs of stick on ingots. This was all accomplished by the help of a 4-ft chicken house fan that I mounted to my reloading building. It was still miserable......but it's amazing what we put ourselves through for the love of our carft! We're in a big cool-down today....only 98 degrees.

We're all hooked... and maybe a little nutty?. Otherwise why would we pick a hobby that has about a zillion variables between buying a gun and getting the bullets that we make hit where we want them to hit. :bigsmyl2:

I have been there, my son is a member and it is "HOT" for sure, even at the same temp here in Amarillo it isn't near as hot. Our heat index is most of the time lower than the real temp but it is just the opposite there it runs 8-12 hotter . I am an old man and we go visit my son in the fall winter and spring, we try not to go anywhere near the summer.

I cast in my air conditioned basement so I don't really care how hot it is outside. Now "smelting" WW's is another story - fall or early spring only.

Last july I ran out of ingots so I had to smelt in the heat. Duh.....But that definitely wont happen again. Now there's a good 2 years of ingots out in the garage. And next winter there will be more.
