If it's a bottlenecked case it sounds like a 44-77.

it is a bottle neck but very very slight
is there differant 44-77 cartridges is say a modern .44-77 chamber differant than a .44-77 sbn or a .44-77 winchester ... i know absolutly nothin about this just happened on a box full of ald cartridges at a yard sale and 40 of these happened to be in the bx

There are a couple of 44-77's there the Sharps/remington bottleneck, and there was a 44-77 straight, that was basically a 45-70 sized to 44, but it wasn't/isn't a real widely used cartridge.

The dimensions don't match exactly with anything I have info on, and not really close to anything US or European, sporting or military.

no theres no head stamp and after a few hours on google my efforts have had the same result as excess650 doesnt match exactly anything i can find .. im kinda leaning towards don and the .44-77 or about anything in the .43 spanish family im going to pull a bullet i think and see what it's loaded with .. bp or smokeless and seeing if its a balloon head case or not .. then there is always a possibility its a wildcat there is a few other oddballs in the box that the case dimensions dont look anything like the origonal headstamp and 1 good find with it is 200 6.5 jap and 200 6.5 - 55 both look to be virgin norma cases .... thimk im goin to start goin to yardsales more often with the wife and kids

It could be the 43 Spanish raformado (spelling?)

spanish reformado is listed as having .454 diameter boolit in c.o.t.w. for what it's worth and good luck in your quest, bubba.

Sometimes its hard to get a handle on bullet diameter if you can't get a measurement on the front driving band of a greaser and thats where you need to measure. And its even harder for a paper patch as many were tapered and bore diam or there abouts to begin with. I've got a 44-77 that fooled me into thinking it was a 43 Spanish because of bullet diam. On closer examination I found no crimp evident and the paper had long been torn away from the exposed portion.
