Went to my buddys yesterday for a pig roast. We had about a dozen people there. Al and i brought our 50 aks and 50 beowolfs out and Al and Ernie took out there 50bmgs and one of the young guys there had a beautiful shiloh sharps in 50 140. We banged away on a steal plate at about 400 yards. Sure was cool watching those 50 cal tracers fly and the incinderary rounds hit that plate. Good food a few beers and good company along with some real cool guns made for a nice day. Buy the way that sharps with smokeless will pound the snot out of a guy! Made full power 50aks seem mild if thats possible. I would have hatted to see the ammo bill if we would have bought that ammo!!

Lloyd, a .50-140 will pound the snot out of you with BP, too. Most people I have ever known to have one, gets rid of them if they are serious shooters.

I've got a Tom Selleck silver 45-110 that the NRA gave away, sitting on my desk next to a 45-70. It doesn't look like fun. I hate to think what a 50-140 would look and feel like.

funny day of shooting when a 50bmg is the lightest recoiling gun you shot ;)

That .45-110 sounds like a lot of fun to me

I've got one, and a .50-140 that I bought in a moment of weakness. The .45-110 definitely gets your attention, certainly more than a .45-70 but it's reasonably comfortable to shoot for long strings as long as the rifle has some weight to it.

I've been shooting the .50-140 mostly while sitting, and off of cross sticks (with BP, not smokeless). The recoil is quite tolerable that way. Certainly a lot easier to handle than hunkered down at a bench.

The heaviest recoiling rifle I've shot was a .416 Remington Magnum. I did 2 shots from the bench just wearing a t-shirt. I had no interest in shooting that one any more  The .50-140 probably shoves you as hard, but the recoil force is spread over a longer time period so it's _way_ more pleasant.

With that said, I don't shoot the .50-140 even close to as much as my .45-70's or my .45-110.
